It was just after 07:00 as WAP-4 22723 approached Phillaur station with the daily 05:10 Amritsar Junction to Chandigarh ASR-CDG Superfast service 12242. Chandigarh is the state capital of Punjab and Haryana and the 248 kms journey would take 4 hours 35 minutes with five intermediate stops.
The locomotive was manufactured in December 2007 and looked as if it had not had a lick of fresh paint since.
