Shot on the outer wall of the Villa Capra "La Rotonda" outside of Vicenza, Italy. I love the detail in this shot, the texture of the stone wall to the veins in the leaf.
The East Side Gallery is a 1.3 km-long painted stretch of the former Berlin Wall along the Mühlenstrasse in former East Berlin. It is the largest open-air gallery in the world with over one hundred original mural paintings. Galvanised by the extraordinary events which were changing the world, artists from all around the globe rushed to Berlin after the fall of the Wall, leaving a visual testimony of the joy and spirit of liberation which erupted at the time.
Wall murals had previously been a highlight for visitors and a Berlin attraction for years but were only to be found on the western side of the Wall. The artists transformed the grey concrete rearticulating this into a lasting expression of freedom and reconciliation.
Some of the best known paintings such as “The Mortal Kiss” by Dimitrji Vrubel, of Erich Honecker and Leonid Brezhnev’s mouth-to-mouth embrace and Birgit Kinder’s Trabi (Trabant) knocking down the Wall. They have provided popular postcard material until today. The paintings which still reflect the patchwork, eclectic and bohemian atmosphere of Berlin today are a mixed-bag of surreal images, political statements and graffiti-like effusions stretching from the Oberbaum Brücke to the Ostbahnhof.
The murals are under heritage protection. Restoration of over a quarter of the paintings which have suffered decay caused by defacement, weather and air pollution is underway.
Some walls have greater significance than others.

The ancient Town Wall (completed along with the castle by 1286) at Conwy threads its way through the town, now surrounded by housing on both sides. This section of the wall has never been opened to the public, although most of the Walls can be walked on and are a great way to see the town.
The second in what I hope will be a series of variations on a castle wall. I've wanted to try this damage technique for a while; this is my first go.

it is not made like this with intent, it just hangs there on the wall near to my office. the sun shines on it in summertime, i think that's why the clock face is broken.

This is me in front of a piece of the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall. Applied to it is a blue filter, hence the black sky. I took it by setting the self timer on my point and shoot, then running out in front.If I had the option do it over again I would have more sky and less ground. Notice that this cheap Casio has some non rectilinear distortion outside of the centre of the image (top of the wall).

On a walk through the pastures up to One Tree Hill I climbed over a few of these old stone walls entrenched with shades of blue-grey moss. It was a dull day but the light was behind the tree giving it a lovely glow.
