I think red gate and white snow is one of the best matches in the world.

Here's my first real sewing project (one that isn't, essentially, a pillowcase). It's based on a pattern in Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing -- of course, I couldn't just follow the pattern as is, I had to deviate and make something exactly how I wanted it. I suspect, though, that even if I had followed the pattern, it'd have turned out just as crappy.
It took me about 43 tries to rethread the machine after making a new bobbin with canvas-colored thread, and my sewing skills leave much to be desired. Everything is crooked: the pockets themselves, their positioning on the background, the stitching. The backstitching is atrocious, and I didn't even know what "topstitching" was, so the hem is completely visible on the bottom. It was hard for me to even cut the fabric out -- I must have recut one of the pockets three times.
The first time I sewed it all together, I realized I'd sewn the rod pocked into the inside of the backing (instead of on the outside, where it would be useful). Good thing I got that seam ripper.
Also, ironing down a 1/4" seam? WTF? So hard! (Let's just ignore the fact that I hadn't actually even used my iron in...well, I don't remember the last time I used my iron.)
Nevertheless, I did it!

This is part of a series of photos that I took for a summer employment program that I helped to coordinate for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), part of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The program began its pilot year in the summer of 2016 at which time we connected 50 students with jobs at nine municipalities within Allegheny County (Pittsburgh). As of this writing (9/2/2017), the second year was even more successful at facilitating employment as we made connections for over 170 students across 40 community organizations.
I have never seen a Pronghorn close to, so I took this photo of a Pronghorn "head" mounted on someone's wall. I don't know if it had been hunted or maybe it had died from another cause, but I never like seeing animal head "trophies". However, I saw my first Pronghorns in the wild a few weeks ago, but only from a distance, so this head did enable me to see what these animals really look like.
