What I found absorbing was the fact that this tree was so uniquely adapted to its environment. With the cliff creating deep shadows only the branches on the left could catch light and if you look closely some of the top branches actually sprout on the right side and then twist around to grow out to the left.
Standing there, was absolutely breathtaking. It looks as if the winter from the left side is about to attack the autumn on the right. And in addition, I got some crepuscular rays too :) What a day!

When I visited the Tulip Festival in Skagit Valley, Washington state some weeks back, we had great weather all along the journey, but when we reached the destination, the dark clouds started rolling in.
This, apparently, is typical to the Pacific Northwest, and while I didn't get any sunny, bright shots of tulips, I had many dramatic shots instead !!
Let me know if this appears to be too dark on your screen !

I only see one Curlew on the whole beach, probably because anytime one shows up he chases it off. I think the Curlew must have sonar or something, because he catches at least 5 times more sand crabs then his competitors, The willets and godwits probe into the sand, foraging for crabs willy nilly hoping they get lucky, whereas the Curlew seems to know where to probe into the sand, thus my sonar theory. Looks like the Willet got caught again trying to steal the curlews sand crab. He actually did get away with it in the end. Curlews needs to have teeth or something in their bill to inflict pain, so the willet is more afraid.
