Pasterze Glacier
The Pasterze, at approximately 8.4 kilometres (5.2 mi) in length, is the longest glacier in Austria and in the Eastern Alps. It lies within the Glockner Group of the High Tauern mountain range in Carinthia, directly beneath Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner. The length of the glacier is currently decreasing by about 50 m (160 ft) each year. Its volume has diminished by half since the first measurements in 1851.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Amiens (French: Basilique Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens), or simply Amiens Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic church. The cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Amiens (currently Jean-Luc Bouilleret). It is situated on a slight ridge overlooking the River Somme in Amiens, the administrative capital of the Picardy region of France, some 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of Paris. It is the 19th largest church in the world.[citation needed]
Medieval cathedral builders were trying to maximize the internal dimensions in order to reach for the heavens and bring in more light. In that regard, the Amiens cathedral is the tallest complete cathedral in France, its stone-vaulted nave reaching an internal height of 42.30 metres (138.8 ft) (surpassed only by the incomplete Beauvais Cathedral). It also has the greatest interior volume of any French cathedral, estimated at 200,000 cubic metres (260,000 cu yd). The cathedral was built between 1220 and c.1270 and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.[5] Although it has lost most of its original stained glass, Amiens Cathedral is renowned for the quality and quantity of early 13th-century Gothic sculpture in the main west façade and the south transept portal, and a large quantity of polychrome sculpture from later periods inside the building.
It's Sydney from Cremorne Point.
One of my favourite sunset locations on the harbour.
And, as always, the city across the harbour is 'working day and night', lol.
SO here's Michael Jackson to liven up your day with his groovy, uptempo, track from the 1979 album 'Off The Wall':

Turn the volume up on your Spotify, lol.
The city photographed from the headland at Cremorne Point, just above the wharf and near the Robertson lighthouse. The ferry on the harbour is heading to Circular Quay, having just departed from Cremorne Point Wharf on the Mosman Bay service - one of the best ferry journeys on Sydney harbour!!

View of the main descent at Victora Falls from the the Danger Point, the easternmost part of the park on the Zimbabwean side, with the rainbow created by the sheer volume of spray thrown up. Boom! More than a kilotonne of spray tumbles over the Falls every second.
These are the next upcoming bags @ Fleshtone.

The Dettifoss waterfall is with the greatest volume of any waterfall in Europe, 500 cubic metres of water per second plunges over the edge. Dettifoss is 45 m high and 100m wide.
I needed to warm up for the night shot. To get into the comfort zone for me a natural start was to go for Black & White pictures. This trip's theme was long exposures with water. The hydro-station at Boen would be a good starting point. You can really feel the change in air pressure as you climb along the massive waterfall. You're really met with a huge roaring volume of water.

My fifth image of this series that will have a half-dozen
or so... It was a magical "once-a-year" night of drama...
(five more photos 'of this night' in the comments)
A quietness akin to a heavy fog hovers over an old barn that once ricocheted the sounds of a farmer's family doing chores and the insistent appeals of the livestock hoping for their evening meals. Now the major sounds are limited to the cooing of pigeons on the roof and the occasional flashing noise of a car passing by on a country gravel road.
How wonderfully civil; fruit mince pies waiting to be eaten 'neath the Christmas tree.
I make fruit mince pies each year for family and friends for Christmas as a gift. What started as a small offering has now become almost too much for me as word spread, and requests came in. Now that I work part-time, it makes it a little easier. I have to set aside a whole weekend at least which I devote just to the baking of Christmas fare in my little kitchen. So as my oven temperature increases, so does the volume on my stereo as I play a selection of my Christmas albums whilst I bake.
This year is a record with 172 individual mince pies, each made by hand using a sweet shortcrust pastry recipe more than a century old, to which I add a spoonful of love for everyone who receives them.
Merry Christmas and bon appétit!
Long story... But these cops turned out to be some of the nicest guys in uniforms I've met in a long time. They were really interested with the ability to ride backwards so we let them have a try. They got half a backwards circle and a few track stands. Not bad for the first ride on a fixed gear. I've been having a rough year with cops so it was a nice year end reminder that not all cops are dicks. These guys were super nice. And down with fixed gears!
Who besides a cat could look elegant just sitting in a cage?
Snowball and his brother Mel are first time boarders. Snowball has been rather ambivalent towards us the whole time while his brother started out hating us and now loves us.
Funny story about Mel. There are two songs that are impossible for me to listen to without singing along - What the World Needs Now and Downtown. A couple days ago both songs played on the radio and since I'm a self conscious singer I went into the boarding room, turned the volume WAY up and sang along. Every boarder except Mel and his brother looked slightly horrified - a couple even hid under their towels - but Snowball ignored me and Mel got up, started chirping and rubbing against the cage door. This happened with both songs. I wonder if they hear loud music at home.
Happy Caturday: Elegance
The volume of snow locally has gone down quite a bit since this was taken. However, there's another winter storm on the way.

UPS Airlines, a major American cargo airline based in Louisville, Kentucky, is among the world’s largest in terms of traffic volume. The history of its parent company, United Parcel Service (UPS), in the air cargo industry dates back to 1929 when it began transporting parcels as baggage on commercial flights. This service ceased in 1931 due to the Great Depression, but in the 1950s, UPS reentered the air travel market with its Blue Label Air service, offering two-day coast-to-coast delivery. UPS Airlines was formally established in 1988 as a subsidiary of UPS.
Currently, UPS Airlines operates flights to 815 destinations worldwide, utilizing the "hub-and-spoke" system. Its primary hub is Worldport at Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville. The airline also maintains several international hubs, including two in North America, two in Europe, three in China, one in Malaysia, and one in the Philippines.
The active fleet of UPS Airlines comprises 291 aircraft, including 43 Boeing 747F aircraft, 13 of which are 747-400F models.

The numbers for this afternoons sunset had been good since Monday ... and didn't change.
Got to the harbour with a half hour to spare and hoped that things might pan out for those old slipway rails that I'm so fond of.
A bit of a study in 5 images ... I hope you enjoy these as much as I did taking them :-)

Venez ! Suivez le retour de la lumière !

The volume of 1.3 million Earths could fit into the Sun. Even keeping these Earths in their whole spherical form, you could still fit 960,000 into the Sun.
For further comparison, some of the Sun's larger solar flares burst outward in excess of 24 Earths in diameter.
Thanks for viewing and reading!
I know some of you have already viewed this, but if interested in the time it takes for sunlight to reach Earth, please visit one of my earlier uploads here:
Have a great day!
