Lake Lucerne (German: Vierwaldstättersee, literally 'Lake of the four forested settlements' (in English usually translated as forest cantons), French: lac des Quatre-Cantons, Italian: lago dei Quattro Cantoni) is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country.
The name of Vierwaldstättersee is first used in the 16th century. Before the 16th century, the entire lake was known as Luzerner See "Lake Lucerne", as remains the English (and partly Italian, as Lago di Lucerna) usage. The (three) "Waldstätte(n)" (lit.: "forested sites/settlements", in English usually translated as forest cantons) since the 14th century were the confederate allies of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. The notion of "Four Waldstätten" (Vier Waldstätten), with the addition of the canton of Lucerne, is first recorded in the 1450s, in an addition to the "Silver Book" of Egloff Etterlin of Lucerne.
The entire lake has a total area of 114 km² (44 sq mi) at an elevation of 434 m (1,424 ft) a.s.l., and a maximum depth of 214 m (702 ft). Its volume is 11.8 km³. Much of the shoreline rises steeply into mountains up to 1,500 m above the lake, resulting in many picturesque views including those of the mountains Rigi and Pilatus.

This work done in graphite, is taken from a volume "Painters in comparison" in which similar works by different artists are shown (Diane Wright, and Martin Taylor). The purpose (assuming the correct proportions!) Is to show the artists interested in carrying out this artistic theme, that the same subjects designed by different artists, show different techniques and traits, but the same for overall values! This leads us to believe that it is right that drawing is not only a visual art but also an individual language. This attachment is my work!

Sequoia National Park is an American national park in the southern Sierra Nevada east of Visalia, California. The park was established on September 25, 1890, and today protects 404,064 acres of forested mountainous terrain. Encompassing a vertical relief of nearly 13,000 feet, the park contains the highest point in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney, at 14,505 feet above sea level. The park is south of, and contiguous with, Kings Canyon National Park; both parks are administered by the National Park Service together as the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. UNESCO designated the areas as Sequoia-Kings Canyon Biosphere Reserve in 1976.
The park is notable for its giant sequoia trees, including the General Sherman tree, the largest tree on Earth by volume. The General Sherman tree grows in the Giant Forest, which contains five of the ten largest trees in the world. The Giant Forest is connected by the Generals Highway to Kings Canyon National Park's General Grant Grove, home of the General Grant tree among other giant sequoias. The park's giant sequoia forests are part of 202,430 acres of old-growth forests shared by Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The parks preserve a landscape that was first cultivated by the Monache tribe, the southern Sierra Nevada before Euro-American settlement.
I needed to warm up for the night shot. To get into the comfort zone for me a natural start was to go for Black & White pictures. This trip's theme was long exposures with water. The hydro-station at Boen would be a good starting point. You can really feel the change in air pressure as you climb along the massive waterfall. You're really met with a huge roaring volume of water.

A quietness akin to a heavy fog hovers over an old barn that once ricocheted the sounds of a farmer's family doing chores and the insistent appeals of the livestock hoping for their evening meals. Now the major sounds are limited to the cooing of pigeons on the roof and the occasional flashing noise of a car passing by on a country gravel road.
Mangahao Power Station is a hydroelectric power station near the town of Shannon, New Zealand. After being delayed by war, access road construction and foundation testing was started by late 1919 and the station opened in November 1924. It makes use of Mangahao River, through a series of tunnels and pipelines totaling 4.8 kilometers, in the Tararua Ranges.
This is the tailrace of the power station which carries an impressive flow and volume of water emerging from the station. Hopefully I've managed to use a shutter speed that conveys the volume and pace of the water to some extent.

While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps..."

"what's that you say?'
so i turn the volume up,
not down,
on this conduit with my muse
until She is all I hear.
rushing through me
in strike and light.
i draw Her closer
and will never again
let Her go.

Volume II of my temporary files opens on a difficult period of my life, during my rehabilitation at the Saint-Yves clinic following a fairly serious health accident (see my series « Heart Passages » published last year)
It ends at work, and in the immediate vicinity of my company’s offices.
(Because yes, I also photograph at work :-) )
Macro Mondays: Four
Prince Caspian -- Volume 4 in the Complete Chronicles of Narnia. Re-print from Fontana Lions (1986). Frame is about 1.75" across.
Sculpted a baby Groot out of procreate and painted it up. The base was a lego antennae piece. The eyes aren't the cleanest, but I'm happy enough with them.
Hope you guys like it! Comments are appreciated.
Presenting the 52nd Monorail Monday - Volume 6 shot! This completes six years of posting monorails on Mondays. It's been fun and it's so cool to know that I inspired so many other photographers to do the same thing. I was debating whether to go for year seven since the Flickr Disney community isn't what it once was. But I'll give it a go because, after all, seven is supposedly a lucky number.
As for this shot, I'm real proud of it. It may look like I did a painterly effect in post but if you look closely, there are rocks in the sky. The shot is actually a reflection captured near The Seas pavilion. I inverted the image so that everything was right side up. I liked the result.
If you post your Monorail Monday images to Google+, please add the tag #MonorailMonday

Venez ! Suivez le retour de la lumière !
