Thanks to all who visit, look at my photos and perhaps "favourite" them. I really, really appreciate a comment, good or bad, about my photos. If you have a tip for making a particular scene better then by all means make that comment. Just say 'Hi' to let me know you were here, even. I'm not thin-skinned and I certainly won't start a war of words. Again, thank you for dropping by.
The Castles are vertically aligned fins of the Wall Mountain Tuff formation which was deposited 36 million years ago during the Oligocene time period. They consist of a columnar jointed volcanic ignimbrite deposit which may have originated in the Mt. Aetna region north of Monarch Pass. These formations are covered by a bright yellowish-green coating of lichens. An overnight dusting of snow really brought out the colors here! Expand for best view.
Sheep Mountain off the Glenn Highway is one of my favorite local Mountains. Its geology is fascinating and the massif is entirely volcanic and volcaniclastic with two types of faults at either end. The clay outwash at Yellow Jacket Creek provided tons of fire brick to line many boilers in Palmer. Rare carbonate rock, shale, basalt, greenstone, gypsiferous rock, sandstone, tuff breccias and quartz are just some of the geology which make up this colorful end of the Talkeetna Range. At either end in shale deposits is evidence of marine life with bivalve fossils. The Matanuska Glacier at one point dammed up the two creek outwashes which backed up tons of rocks and sediment, which "cemented" together with the gypsum and clay. These rocks can be found in the creek beds.

Raj stepped on what looked like a mound of snow. It was a snow-covered tree. He was dangling - that foot never reached the ground.
The camera's fine. Oh - so is Raj.
As the sun rises to meet Cadillac Mountian, the sleak, linear islands named after the pointy backed mammals lye in Frenchman Bay off the coast of Acadia National Park.
Late in the afternoon at Sumner beach September 16, 2015 Christchurch New Zealand.
Sumner is a coastal seaside suburb of Christchurch. On 22 February 2011, Sumner was hit by the Christchurch earthquake, which destroyed or made uninhabitable a large number of the local houses and commercial buildings. On 13 June the same year, Sumner was hit by another earthquake of almost the same magnitude as the February event. These two earthquakes caused many of Sumner's iconic cliffs to collapse, and many areas to be cordoned off with both traditional fences and, more interestingly, shipping containers.

The weather was strong - with days where the wind was over 30m/s but never the less the Icelandic beauty was on full display. These images are from a brief roadtrip along the South Coast.

From a mine site work camp high up in the Andes Mountains of Argentina. (My photo was recently included in our company's client calendar)
A narrow dirt road winds along the convergence of the base of two volcanic mountain ranges in a northern Argentina mining site. Winter view.
