Label reads:" This wine was made solely from Cabernet grapes grown at Mudgee. The grapes were fermented and crushed at our cellars in February 1970, and then matured in a 500 - gallon Oak Cask until June 1971. The wine was then transferred for final maturing in a new Nevers Oak 500-gallon casks till bottling in September 1971. The wine has excellent colour with a bouquet that is full showing good balance of well grown Cabernet and new oak. On the palate the wine is medium full bodied, perfectly balanced with a soft grape tannin. A slightly pronounced acid on the finish is a clear sign that it will mature at least for a further 3 years. McWilliam's Wines pioneered the cultivation of Cabernet in the Riverina district of New South Wales in 1960 and this wine, which is a blend of 52 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 48 % Shiraz, is the first Cabernet Red to be released from this area. With its pronounced varietal flavour, good colour, excellent balance and firm tannin finish it possesses the classical claret style. Matured in limousin oak, it was bottled in June, 1967. It was awarded a Gold Medal in the International Wine Fair at Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, in 1967..."

Label reads:" Estd. 1877 McWilliam's Mount Pleasant PHILIP HERMITAGE 1969 The climatic conditions existing through the latter months of 1968 and early 1969 resulted in the quantity of red grapes harvested for the 1969 vintage being very limited. Because of this, the 1969 Philip Hermitage is a blend of Hermitage, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, and was matured in 600 gallon oak casks until bottled in July 1971. This blend has produced a very unique wine; full bodied, fruity, with good balance and firm tannin finish. This wine was made from selected white grape varieties grown in the Corowa/Rutherglen district of southern Australia and the Pokolbin vineyards of the Hunter River Valley, N.S.W. It has been matured in small oak casks in a solera commenced in 1940, and is very similar in style to the wines from the Island of Madeira.
