Today we spotlight the drummers. The ones who sit in the back and somehow end up steering the whole ship. And if you're riding down a long highway somewhere, moon hanging over the blacktop, humming through the dashboard speaker, there's a good chance you've heard Charlie Watts keeping time without ever asking for attention.
Charlie Watts was the gentleman in a world full of peacocks. While everybody else was kicking down doors, Charlie looked like he might be on his way to a jazz club where the tea came in heavy glasses and nobody raised their voice above the music.
He sat behind the drums for The Rolling Stones for more than half a century, playing with a touch so light you could mistake it for simplicity, until you tried to do it yourself. Then you'd discover there was a whole universe tucked between those beats. And Charlie smiled. Ahhh… that smile. Maybe more than any drummer who ever lived. Not the smile of somebody trying to sell you something. Not the grin of a carnival barker. It was the smile of a man who knew a secret. Like he'd just heard the punchline to a joke told by Duke Ellington fifty years ago and was still enjoying it.
Because beneath all the rock and roll thunder, Charlie Watts was a jazz man. Jazz wasn't a hobby for him, it was home. Before the stadiums, before the screaming crowds, before the giant stages and flashing lights, there was swing, there was bebop, there were brushes dancing across a snare drum. Even when he was playing the biggest rock songs on earth, you could hear that jazz heart beating underneath.
He understood something that all the great drummers understand: time isn't something you keep. Time is something you ride. Like a train rolling through the night. Watts never chased the beat and he never pushed it around. He sat right in the middle of it, calm as a man reading the evening paper.
The world will always remember the swagger of the Stones, but somewhere in the center of all that noise was Charlie Watts, smiling behind the drums, carrying a lifetime love affair with jazz, making the difficult sound easy and the easy sound beautiful.
Some drummers hit the drums. Charlie Watts let them sing.

Today we celebrate one of those fellas who slipped through the cracks in the sidewalk while everybody else was marching in step. Some people make records, some people make noise, and some people make a room feel haunted just by turning the knobs a certain way. Brian Eno did all three before breakfast.
Brian Eno came along and made music that sounded like it was listening to you. That’s a dangerous thing. Makes a man uneasy. Like finding a mirror in the woods.
He started out dressed like a runaway peacock with Roxy Music, standing beside Bryan Ferry looking like a science-fiction undertaker. While everybody else in rock and roll was trying to look tough, Eno looked like he’d just arrived from a card game on Venus. Feather boas, synthesizers, eyeliner… the whole electric rodeo.
Eno wasn’t interested in being a guitar gunslinger. No. He treated the recording studio the way old alchemists treated a basement laboratory. Twist this wire here, slow that tape down there, spill a little accident into the soup and see if God answers back. And sometimes He did.
Eno figured music didn’t always have to march around waving a flag. Sometimes it could just hover. Drift through the wallpaper. Sit in the corner like a cat watching snowfall. People call(ed) it “ambient music,” which sounds to me like something sold in a hardware store. You hear the album “Music for Airports” and the whole world slows down enough for you to hear your own shoes think. Then you hear the album “Before And After Science” and that’s a rare trick. The track “By the River”, oh me oh my.
Most artists want attention. Eno wanted atmosphere. He made records that sounded like abandoned buildings dreaming about people. And somehow, somewhere along the line, everybody started stealing from him. Rock bands, techno producers, movie composers, fellas making meditation tapes out in California… all of them dipping their cups into Eno’s well.
He touched a lots of records too. Whispered ghosts into albums by David Bowie, turned the highways neon for Talking Heads, helped U2 climb up into the stadium clouds. Some producers build a sound. Eno built weather systems.
And he had those Oblique Strategies cards too. Little fortune-cookie commandments for lost musicians. “Honor thy mistake as a hidden intention.” That’s not just studio advice. That’s life advice. Could’ve saved a lot of marriages and at least three governments.
You listen to Brian Eno long enough and you start noticing strange things. Ceiling fans sound musical. Traffic lights seem philosophical. Air conditioners begin confessing secrets. The world gets wider around the edges. And that’s what the best artists do. They don’t just give you something to hear. They change the temperature of reality for a little while.
Brian Eno… patron saint of beautiful detours. The man who taught machines how to daydream.

Today we celebrate a fellow who’s been walking his own kind of line for a long time, that’s right, Robert Smith. Yeah, the man with the smeared lipstick and the storm-cloud hair, standing somewhere between a lullaby and a midnight confession.
Some people sing to shake the dust off their boots, others sing like they’re trying to remember a dream they had before they were born. Robert Smith is one of those.
Smith comes from a place where the rain doesn’t just fall, it lingers. Where a song can stretch out like a shadow at sundown and still not tell you everything it knows. Some folks build their sound out of sunshine and open roads, Robert Smith builds his out of twilight, out of colors you can’t quite name. You listen to him long enough, you start to realize he’s not just singing about love or loss, he’s mapping out a feeling, like a cartographer of the invisible. Every note’s got a little tremble in it, like it’s deciding whether to stay or disappear.
And that voice, well, it don’t chase you down, it just waits. Waits for you to wander into it, like a late-night diner with the lights still on. You don’t always know why you went in, but you’re glad you did.
So wherever you are, keep that dial right where it is. Some songs don’t knock, they just drift in through the window, and before you know it, they’re part of the night.

Today we’re drifting into a voice. Not just any voice, but one that could bend time, stretch a note like it was taffy, and make the air itself lean in closer. Today we celebrate Sarah Vaughan. They called her Sassy.
Sarah Vaughan didn’t just sing a song, she inhabited it. Like she’d been living there all along, waiting for the rest of us to catch up. Born in Newark, New Jersey, where the church bells ring and the radios hum, she started out on piano, but somewhere along the line, the voice took over. And when it did, well, the world had to make room.
A voice that could glide low like midnight smoke, then climb high enough to rattle the stars. Jazz singers, they talk about phrasing, how you tell the story between the words. Vaughan, she didn’t just tell the story, she rewrote it every time.
She came up in that golden age, you know the one, when the bands were big, the nights were longer, and the music didn’t ask for permission to exist. She ran with the innovators, the dreamers, the ones turning music inside out and upside down. But she stood apart, too. Always did.
There’s a kind of freedom in her singing. Not the kind you wave a flag for. This kind of freedom is quieter than that. It’s the freedom of knowing exactly who you are, and not needing to explain it. She could take a standard, something everybody thought they understood, and suddenly it felt like a secret again. Love songs, heartbreak songs, songs about nothing in particular, they all passed through her voice and came out changed. Warmer. Stranger. Truer, maybe.
And she had range, oh, she had range. Not just the kind you measure in octaves, but emotional range. One minute she’s playful, almost teasing the melody, and the next she’s pulling something deep out of the shadows. Like she found a door in the song nobody else noticed.
You listen long enough, you start to realize, she’s not just singing to you. She’s singing through you. Like you’re part of the instrument.
So wherever you are today, let that voice find you. Let it settle in. Because Sarah Vaughan didn’t just leave behind recordings, she left behind moments. And if you’re lucky, you might just catch one passing by.

Göteborg’s a town that knows how to work hard and play harder. Built by Dutchmen, Scotsmen, and dreamers with cold hands and warm hearts. You got shipyards, cobblestone streets, and rain that’ll make you wish you packed a better hat. But don’t worry, there’s always spectacular exhibitions going on or legendary record stores nearby to dry you out, the city won’t fail you like the southern ones.
Take a walk down a narrow street construction on one side, old brick on the other. Smells like asphalt and coffee. You might see a lonely bicycle leaning against a wall, or a piece of graffiti shouting out to no one in particular: ‘GBG!’
Step inside, and suddenly you’re in another world. High ceilings, golden light, and that glass roof making you feel like you’re somewhere between heaven and bureaucracy. That’s Göteborg for you; half poetry, half paperwork.
So whether you’re drifting down Avenyn or ducking into some hidden alleyway, remember every city’s got a rhythm. Some beat loud and fast, some slow and steady like a Nordic tide. But you see the heartbeat of Göteborg sounds different: ‘The place to be.’
Arjuna was born in the Himalayas in India in 1982 Ever since, he has had a unique and interesting journey through life. He grew up in Goa, the mecca of psy trance, where he saw the birth and evolution of this mystical genre.
Arjuna started collecting psytrance DATs and mini disks at a very early age. At the age of 19, he got his first shot behind the decks and there was no looking back.
Meeting with Giuseppe Parvati and Teo Discovalley gave Arjuna’s music taste a new direction – deep and purely psychedelic – and it was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened and Arjuna started experimenting with his own sounds with a Playstation game called Music 2000.
