El Cuerpo. Nuestros cuerpos,

By doing the Visual Study from the beginning I felt that it was not going the way I wanted, not having control of the charcoal, It was hard for me to take on the shape and the spaces that I needed. I was struggling but managed to continue on the basic shape of the art work in front of me and little by little I have managed to give few details also creating waves of patterns by using the charcoals as well as using shadowing in my work which made the visual project stand out more.
I'm entering this in a call for visual journals by the Brooklyn Sketchbook Library to be put in a time capsule for 50 years (!). I've decided the theme will be birds, with the Emily Dickinson quote in mind, "I hope you love birds too. It's economical. It saves going to heaven."

This series, "Embers of Dreams," is an ethereal journey through the vibrant ethos of Jim Kwik's poignant verse 'One Life. Just One.' Each image is meticulously crafted to resonate with the soul of a contemplative 19-year-old woman, deeply entwined in the rich tapestries of French, Italian, and German philosophical thought. Straying from the literal, we delve into the existential nuances of seizing life’s ephemeral moments. In the style of Zdzisław Beksiński, these visuals are not mere pictures; they are echoes of ambition, existential introspection, and an unquenchable yearning for the extraordinary. Each frame is a tribute to the profound beauty of pursuing one's wildest dreams with an unbridled passion, encapsulating the essence of living fervently in the pursuit of greatness.
Digt
In shadows of thought, where dreams dare to tread,
A whisper of fire, in the heart of the young, is spread.
Philosophic echoes, in French, German, Italian song,
A spirit unbound, where desires belong.
Through Beksiński’s lens, a surreal vision we weave,
In the dance of time, what does one young soul believe?
One life, just one, in the echoes of night,
A pursuit of dreams, in existential flight.
With intellect kindled, and passion in sight,
She runs through the embers, her dreams taking flight.
In each vivid image, a story untold,
Of a life unyielding, brave and bold.
Haiku
Dreams ignite the soul,
In life's brief, fervent pursuit,
Stars in her eyes glow.
When it's 100 during the day, people come out at night. Even in the rain! These streets were full of little restaurant, bars, and tourist traps. Plenty of county fair type games, and even a few traditional Japanese archery rooms.
Officially "Aussichtplattform Adlerhorst im Baumwipfelpfad Rügen des Naturerbezentrum Rügen". Nevertheless pretty cool.
It's a 1,250 m long walkway on a level with the surrounding treetops of the UNESCO natural heritage beech forest. There're several features for kids and adults on the way to learn about nature, forest and this particular place. The view is just amazing! Especially from the view tower, called Eagle's Nest (Adlernest; you could see real eagles indeed). The tower is 82m above sea level and almost guarantees a stunning view over the Jasmunder Bodden and nearby Prora, the open sea and the industrial port of Mukran/Sassnitz (where the large ferries to Trelleborg come and leave). Their website claims visual range up to Stralsund and the Rügen Bridge.
This is an update to something I was calling "five frames". The category called "relationships" is new.
This is a set of 5 over-sized postcards of some of my visual journal pages. Each glossy postcard represents a journal spread, and is 8.5" x 5.5". The printing quality is so good, you can read my writing and feel what I was feeling when I created the journal page. Keep it for yourself for art inspiration, or mail it. The back is blank, except for my information, so you can write a note and address it.

UM LINDO VISUAL...
- Este jogo de sombras e luz, que adoro, me faz lembrar de uma colega de trabalho... a Beatriz. Ela também adora fotos, mas não é muito fã de sair...
- No chão o que se encontra no céu...
A BEAUTIFUL LOOK...
- This play of shadows and light, which I love, reminds me of a coworker... Beatriz. She also loves photos, but she's not much of a fan...
- On the ground what is in the sky...

So this was my original sketch for the Komedia wall. It changed quite a bit in translation, mainly her face, guess this is the nature of working at such a large scale!

Notice that a couple horses in the photo have on horse masks, a unique visual art form created by Native American artists. Masks were usually used for parades or ceremonies, not for battle, because they limited a horse’s range of vision. The art still thrives today. I got to see some truly outstanding examples of horse masks at a recent exhibition called “A Song for the Horse Nation” at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. Here are a few examples:

Printed on the back of the stereoview is the following text, which is clearly aimed at youngsters:
“Long ago, when the Sioux Indians were wild people, the boys had many games. Some were with the bow and arrow, or wrestling, or swimming, or racing. Sometimes they had fights with mud balls. What would your mother say to this kind of game? One of the queerest sports was a war upon the nests of wild bees. They played the bees were Indian enemies. They painted their faces as their fathers did when ready for the warpath. Then with a warwhoop they rushed at the nest. If the bees stung them they pretended not to care. One of the best games of all was racing. Some of the Indian ponies are very swift. The boys learned to ride them with no saddle but with a blanket thrown over their backs. They did not guide the ponies with reins, but by their legs and the swaying of their bodies.
“In the picture are some grown-up Sioux Indians on their racing ponies. Can you see the feathers they wear? When the Indians were wild people, eagles’ feathers could be worn only by those who had done a certain brave deed. A war bonnet could be worn by a man who had won ten battles. A warrior might wear one with long, trailing plumes if he were a leader the Indians liked to follow. Other braves could wear feathers, but not eagles’ feathers or war bonnets.”
