Photographed using a Nikon D200 modified to shoot infrared at 740nm. Infrared is especially good at bringing out the texture of gravestones and statues.

More from Modern Pre-Raphaelite Visionaries: British Art 1880 - 1930, currently at the Leamington Spa art gallery. This is Frederick Cayley Robinson’s ‘A Wood so Green’, painted in 1893. As with several in this exhibition, it clearly holds a narrative – if only we knew what it was. Here we have another damsel in distress, not seen by (or perhaps parted from) the mounted knight almost hidden by the trees, and whose head seems to have a halo. At the top in the centre is a sign which is apparently indecipherable even up close – all rather confusing.

S’incontrano passanti d’ogni genere. Vi sono coloro che non guardano attorno a sé e hanno fretta d’arrivare in un luogo preciso e coloro che distrattamente attraversano il mondo o da lui si lasciano attraversare. Ma preferiremmo far parte di coloro che si soffermano sulle cose, sui luoghi in continua metamorfosi dove ci si perde per meglio ritrovarsi. Perché siamo consapevoli di vivere nella “multifonia” del nostro immaginario, sotto il sole delle fresche mattine di primavera e contemporaneamente sull’orlo dell’abisso. L’occhio, nei momenti d’ozio creativo, cercherà non la forma perfetta delle cose ma la bellezza della sua imperfezione, la sua complessità, la “sbavatura”, per usare un termine caro al filosofo Merleau-Ponty.
On rencontre des passants de tout genre. Il y a ceux qui ne regardent rien autour d’eux et n’ont qu’ un désir, celui d’arriver vite à un endroit précis et ceux qui traversent distraitement le monde où se laissent traverser par le monde. Mais nous préférons faire partie de ceux qui s’arrêtent sur les choses, sur les lieux en perpétuelle métamorphose, là où l’on se perd pour mieux se retrouver. Car nous sommes conscients de vivre dans la « multiphonie » de notre imaginaire, sous le soleil des frais matins de printemps ainsi qu’au bord de l’abîme. L’œil, dans les moments d’oisiveté créative cherchera non pas la forme parfaite des choses mais la beauté dans ce qu’elle a d’imparfait, dans sa complexité, dans la « bavure », comme dirait le philosophe Merleau-Ponty.

Well I finally got all my Spectral Knights finished, yet the camera has revealed certain points on the figures where the paint has peeled and will require a few more dabs here and there. I did have ideas for making figures of the power staff manifestations, but I feel it may require completely painting the figures all in one colour.

The Canadian Government is going to extend the Dempster Highway from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktut at the shore of the Beaufort Sea [Arctic Coast] during the next few years. I really hope that the planning of the highway extension follows the most scenic route possible through the Mackenzie Delta, to even further enhance the enormous beauty of this visionary road.

It's the story of a woman with a mysterious illness. The doctor tells her she'll be fine, but has to expect attacks from time to time. Her family gathers for a reunion in the spring, out of the regular schedule, which normally is in summer. This makes her think that she is about to die before summer, but nobody is telling her.
The man in the bottom of the drawing is an obnoxious uncle who normally smokes cigars without any regard for anyone, but this time, he is unusually nice and considerate, which re-enforces her idea that they are all gathered because she is about to die.
A few lines from the short story:
For one thing, Uncle Michael did not sneer and complain or make comments about the goddamn puritans taking over when she asked him not to smoke in the house. This was unusual for him, he being the kind to resist by smoking even more, perhaps to the point of making himself sick just to show that he didn't give a damn what she thought of him. Maybe he was getting old or finally submitting to the decline in social approval for the habit, maybe his old cronies with whom he smoked and secretly drank at the barber shop were giving up or dying of emphysema and lung cancer and so leaving him without the support and an appreciative audience for the tales he would carry back about his stubbornness and stiff backbone, or perhaps he felt sorry for her because she didn't have much time left.
