China 3000
One of the things that strikes you the most when you visit the People's Republic of China is the extent of construction works. Uniform rows and lines of 30-storey apartment blocks stand like sentinels, awaiting readyness for the next wave of urban immigrants. The doric arches of uncompleted bridges emerge from the countryside, poised to carry travellers. New cities are created and connected to the old ones. At first glance, China only seems to be a vast building site.
It is unclear if the Chinese government's plan to build entire new cities is to house its ever growing population or is only for the sole purpose of maintaining an artificial GDP growth. Despite thousands of flats being built per week in China it seems that some of the population’s middle class is still struggling to afford a property to live in.
At twice the rate of any other countries, China's construction sector is creating its own property bubble.
On most of the fences of new construction sites are proudly displayed the architects’ rendered drawings of the new building, showing future inhabitants at work or play in their new environement.
This series entitled “China 3000” is an illustration of China's self depiction and its own vision of the future on the walls of its building constructions.

This thing got nick named the "blue beast". It's a deck from 1989 that was cut down to a more modern shape. I bought this from Pro Skates around 1993 or 4.
I found out recently that this board came from Vision's archive when they sold off everything they had to try and keep the company in business.

Chameleons are amazing creatures. While I was watching and preparing to shoot, its eyes were rotating all around while it did not move from its position. They can really scan and see 360 degrees around. Wonder Nature.

A Desenzano del Garda una serie di iniziative sul pensiero della pedagogista Maria Montessori e sulle migliori pratiche europee per l’inclusione dei diversamente abili nella scuola e nella società.
"Visioni Inclusive" si configura come un contenitore divulgativo di proposte e confronto tra gli operatori su principi e metodologie di inclusione – in particolare nelle scuole dell’infanzia - per dare impulso e visibilità ad azioni di integrazione presso un pubblico di non “addetti ai lavori”.
La conferenza e la Mostra promosse dall’Assessorato all’Istruzione del Comune di Desenzano del Garda si sono svolte in collaborazione con le città gemellate, sotto il patrocinio di Regione Lombardia e del MIUR - Ufficio scolastico per la Lombardia e con il contributo degli sponsor Associazione Montessori Brescia, Gonzagarredi Montessori, Hotels Promotion, Desenzano Sviluppo Turistico e Grana Padano.

A seguire, inaugurazione della Mostra "Maria Montessori ieri e oggi", con l'esposizione del materiale didattico montessoriano "storico" delle scuole desenzanesi ed il materiale prodotto attualmente.
La Mostra resterà aperta nelle sale “Gino Benedetti“ del Castello, con ingresso libero, tutti i sabato e domenica fino a domenica 9 novembre 2014. In tale periodo potrà essere visitata dalle scolaresche dal lunedì al venerdì (prenotazioni c/o Ufficio Istruzione).

A Vision

In 1922 Joseph Stella revisited his native Italy and became fascinated by Renaissance painting. Emulating Italian artists such as Sandro Boticelli, Stella began to produce decorative, detailed, symbolic compositions such as A Vision, which was originally a mural commission. The painting’s fantastical subject alos allies it with modern art, particularly Surrealism. Stella was enthralled by the tropical plants he observed at the Bronx Botanical Garden in New York, and here he imagined an iconic woman growing out of the earth like the exotic flowers on either side of her.
Recipe...
In a griddle pan, fry the following with some olive oil:
- 1 courgette sliced
- 1 red onion roughly chopped
- 1 red pepper sliced
Slice 1 small aubergine, coat in olive oil and grill on both sides until brown
In a bowl with enough cousoucs for 2 people, add .5 teaspoon of el ras hanout spice, dash of olive oil, salt and some vegetable stock powder and cover with hot water.
Assemble the dish with the couscous lining the plate. Add the grilled aubergines around the side of the dish and the vegetables on top. squeeze over some lemon, fresh mint, olive oil and if desired some feta cheese and dukkah.
Even with full zoom, this osprey was too far away for me to get a clear shot, but I knew I could do something pretty with it since the scene was simple, and the bird was so beautiful.
Osprey are common sights in Central Florida. They are birds of prey, and are adept at fishing. It's not unusual to see one high in a tree like this, surveying the area for its dinner. I see them mostly near water, like this one was, by the pond in Magnolia Park. I've watched them dive like a missile, bulleting straight down into the water, and coming up with fish that seem too large for them to fly with, but they always seem to manage!
Osprey mate for life. Several years ago, there was a nesting pair at The Jackie Robinson Stadium in downtown Daytona Beach. Some idiot killed one of the birds, leaving the other to grieve for its mate for the rest of its life. After that, more attention was paid to protecting these birds, and ensuring their survival. It's hard, since they often nest near very public areas, like at the top of utility poles on busy roadways. They have learned to adapt to living in proximity of humans. Now, if only humans would learn to live in proximity to THEM!
