There was a short-lived vision during the early days of rail privatisation in the late-1990s that 'piggyback', the carriage of road semi-trailers on specially built rail vehicles, was a way forward with the support of Government grant-aid. In fact I was the project manager for the Tankfreight/Milk Marque concept using the Tiphook pocket wagons originally built for the Pedigree Petfoods traffic between London Cricklewood, Melton Mowbray and Glasgow Deanside. The milk by rail concept with DRS as the contracted train operator was not taken up by the customer, despite it having been an operational success and a potentially highly cost-effective and environmentally-friendly solution, but that's a story for another time! At about the same time as the milk by rail proposal, EWS contracted Thrall at York to build twenty 'FHA' Eurospine wagons, also to allow the carriage of intermodal (road/rail) semi-trailers within the UK loading gauge, but requiring the vehicles to be lifted rather than driven on. Although relatively rare compared to the liner train concept the wagons allowed some traffic to move by rail which would otherwise have moved by road. These wagons were ordered following the successful operation of two prototypes carrying Royal Mail road trailers. Unfortunately the loss of Royal Mail traffic resulted in them lying idle almost since they were built. They were then moved to the site of the former Upperby (12B) steam motive power depot. Along with the sad looking remains of the London & North Western Railway-built carriage shed, the scene viewed from Carlisle Hilltop Heights (formerly named Gallows Hill), made a depressing scene. The passing Direct Rail Services 4M16 Grangemouth to Daventry Malcolm Logistic Services intermodal service, with 66431 up front, has at least been a success story in converting road traffic to rail.

So this evening, I photographed "naked". No.. no not what your thinking (if that was the case, the authorities would be called, people would be laughing and it wouldn't end well). I photographed with just the camera and one lens. Normally I'm carrying my backpack with a few lenses, filters, tripod, cable release the whole package. This was an a minimalist attempt at shooting, I did find myself reaching for my backpack looking for this or that. This was taken downtown San Jose on my way home.

Vision Bus Ltd LK07 BDU, an Alexander Dennis Dart built 2007 with an Alexander Dennis Enviro200 B26F body runs along Knowsley Street in Bury route learning the 512/513 routes in preparation for working the services from Monday 26th October. Wednesday 21st October 2020
Note, LK07 BDU was registered on 14th June 2007 and originally operated by Metroline Travel Limited as number DES792. It was acquired by the Ensign Bus Company Limited (a Purfleet based dealer) in July 2017 and acquired by UK Coachways Limited (a Blackrod based operator operating as Vision Bus) in July 2017. UK Coachways Limited’s Vision Bus operations were transferred to Vision Bus Ltd in March 2018
