After letting Ubuntu finish its updates, installed a few packages manually. Ansible and git are required to use the playbooks. dkms and the linux header are only becaues I installed the VBox Guest Additions. Bare-Metal machines will not need this.
Today at work I'm experimenting with some virtualisation....
Vista with an Ubuntu VM
Win2008 with an XP VM
Mac OSX with a Windows7 VM
Its getting confusing... LOL
My Fedora 14 "Laughlin" customised with GreenHeart theme on a dual-screen computer. As you can see, it runs Virtual Machines (such as Windows Server 2003) in VirtualBox.
This present view is obtained by rotating the desktops cube using Compiz skill (Compiz is a 3D-desktop manager).
Discovered today that there is a free virtualisation package from Sun so I wasted no time in trying it out. I have a Vista copy from the now defunct laptop, so its totally free AND legal! Not that I have a yearning for Vista, but sometimes a copy of IE is handy to have.
Linux virtualbox includes a feature called "Seamless Desktop" It integrates a virtual operaqting system with your physical machines desktop. Here I have KDE Fedora task bar and start button at the top, WinXP Pro at the bottom. The Firefox browser was running from Fedora, while the Rhapsody player was running from a virtual WinXP!
Oh, and it's all being pipped to my wide screen LCD TV so I can sit across the room on the couch with a radio remote keyboard on my lap :D
For those of you curious about linuix, you can get a Windows version of VirtualBox, and use it to install a "virtual linux" to play around with in complete safety!
Want to try it yourself?
Step 1. Install VirtualBox: www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
Step 2. Set up a Windows8 VM in virtualbox.
Step 3. Install Windows 8 Preview on the VM: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/br229516
