formerly called Seashore State Park. The northernmost point in the United States where Spanish Moss grows.
January 2022 Chippokes Plantation is one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country. A working farm since 1619, the park offers modern recreational activities and a glimpse of life in a bygone era. Visitors tour the historic area with its antebellum mansion and outbuildings, stroll through formal gardens, and view antique equipment at the Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum.
The color has yet to come back to the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, but I can never resist stopping here and taking a photo of these hemlocks on my way up to Wilburn Ridge.
Some nice puffy clouds and a dark blue, polarized sky made a nice backdrop for a black and white image of these iconic trees.
These beautiful hemlocks are located just outside of Grayson Highlands State Park, in Mount Rogers Recreation Area on the Appalachian Trail.
I don't really know why I thought of the Tetris video game
when I was wading out into the New River and came upon these cool looking rocks. It could have been the somewhat electronic music I was listening to, even though it was not nearly as awesome sounding as the incredible Tetris intro music.
And even then, the point of the game Tetris is to use blocks to fill in the space given, when this scene is evident that water is taking chunks of rocks away from the area using erosion... but the rocks that do break off eventually become a delta further down the river... so maybe it is like Tetris after all...
I guess I'll just stick to taking the pitchers.
