Chippokes Plantation is one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country. A working farm since 1619, the park offers modern recreational activities and a glimpse of life in a bygone era. Visitors tour the historic area with its antebellum mansion and outbuildings, stroll through formal gardens, and view antique equipment at the Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum. The River House was built on the property in the 1830 but has never been restored by the owners or the state. Black Vultures have taken up residence here.

Belle Isle has seven miles of shoreline on the Northern Neck's Rappahannock River and provides access to Mulberry and Deep creeks. The park lets visitors explore a wide variety of tidal wetlands interspersed with farmland and upland forests.
The diverse habitats found in the park provide homes to many predator birds, such as blue herons, osprey, hawks and bald eagles. White-tailed deer, turkeys, groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels, moles, reptiles and amphibians are also common. There are eight distinct types of wetlands within the park.
Caledon's annual Night Before Christmas Wagon Rides and Story are always a hit. Guests enjoy singing carols on a wagon ride through the trails and then returning to the visitor center for hot chocolate and a reading of 'Twas the Night before Christmas.

Warren County, Virginia. Shenandoah River Raymond R. "Andy" Guest Jr. State Park is on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River and has more than 1,600 acres along 5.2 miles of shoreline. The park opened in June 1999. In addition to the meandering river frontage, the park offers scenic views of Massanutten Mountain to the west and Shenandoah National Park to the east. With more than 25 miles of trails, the park has plenty of options for hiking, biking, horseback riding and adventure.

Here is a side view of Cabin #9 that we stayed in. Unfortunately this entrance and the back deck were facing the sun, there was no shade. The front storm door handle got hot.

As the first planned state park of Virginia, First Landing is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Seashore State Park Historic District. A portion of the park is listed as a National Natural Landmark as part of the Seashore Natural Area.
The state park is near the site of the first landing on April 26, 1607 of Christopher Newport and the Virginia Company colonists before establishing themselves at Jamestown.

The area was too swampy for them to stay, so they sailed up the James River and founded Jamestown. First Landing is also the northernmost place in the United States where Spanish Moss grows.
