the pinkish almost purple flowers really pop against the green background.

These stunning Male Violet tailed Sylphs were seen at Montezuma Lodge on the Western slopes of the Andes. They are near endemic, residing on slopes above 900m in Ecuador and Colombia. Typically this Male either landed too close, too far away or behind a branch. If he landed in the perfect spot you could guarantee that the Male Empress Brilliant chased it off. The photos don't seem to do him justice.

I've never seen beige violets before, there are so many species of violets I didn't know about now that I have the time to walk about and discover them! Have a lovely weekend everyone!! Note: these were beige but my camera wanted to make them white, so I had to adjust the color a bit.

My yard is filled with violets each spring. Passers-by often stop and take a cellphone photo. The rest of my gardens have suffered from neglect but the violets thrive.

Antwerp Zoo (Dutch: ZOO Antwerpen) is a zoo in the centre of Antwerp, Belgium, located next to the Antwerpen-Centraal railway station. It is the oldest animal park in the country, and one of the oldest in the world, established on 21 July 1843.

The Violet-green Swallows are a common sight in the West in spring and summer, but they vanish to Mexico and Central America for the winter.

For the smile on Saturday group, the theme is Flower name is a first name.

These wild dog violets are a favourite of mine.

Slender Violet-bush

I think this is a violet, and definitely a wildflower I discovered on a walk.. Some contend the color known as violet doesn't really exist. Call it what you want, I like the color.

Another shot of this handsome little hummer.

Very large, spectacular, and aggressive hummingbird of humid evergreen forest in highlands and foothills, descending locally and seasonally to lowlands in southeastern Mexico. Feeds at all levels at flowers and at times in canopy of roadside trees. Note the very large size, thick arched bill, and big, flashy white tail corners. Male’s amazing purple plumage often looks blackish overall, but when it catches the light—wow!

violets are popping up all over the lawn!

This has been my best bud for the last few years. She's on my bed snoring right now and she isn't as active any more, but neither am I. This was taken at my favorite campsite in the Dinkey Creek campground. As you can see, Violet is very proper while she is watching over me making sure I don't get into trouble. If you notice she doesn't have a leash on, (which is a no no), but she is the only dog I have owned that I never have to worry about leaving camp. One of my fellow campers called her a "velcro" dog and that is exactly what she is, stuck to your side.

Another great memory to share while we are social distancing. Stay safe and we'll all be taking adventures again soon.

These violets seem to enjoy my south facing windows. I'm tempted to purchase a lot more to keep this plant company :)

Violet-crowned Woodnymph feeding from Banana Flower at San Ramon, Costa Rica., Costa Rica.

This lovely swallow was a delightful surprise for me to see. As I sat on my stool in the midst of a Barn Swallow fest, I noticed a few Violet-greens swooping around me, one of them coming in closer with each pass, as if to check me out. At one point, one of the swallows flew right across my arm and I could feel the whoosh of air as it did. Sweet!

First time I've run across this mushroom. Photographed on the Shady Maple Trail, Goose Island Park, La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

In case you were wondering how the Violet-tailed Sylph female looked like...

"Doing what you like is freedom.

Liking what you do is happiness."

Frank Tyger

The viola is a large family containing 500 species, they are on record in Greece from the 4th century B.C.

Later in Europe, it was discovered that a plant similar to a viola grew in open areas.

The plant found mostly in fields and amongst rocks in the Alps, hence Alpine.

It became known as a wild pansy (French: pensée). It might have been a romantic Frenchman who 'named' it...

A pensée can be a thought or a saying, short or it can be as long as a paragraph, a page, a poem!

Maybe he thought of his loved-one, dried one amongst some book he carried? Juste une pensée... lol.

These delicately fragrant flowers come in a wonderful variety of colours.

The dark centres in some flowers are thought to resemble little faces.

These are a smaller variety that I have in the garden, I could not resist photographing them in the studio...

As always, thank you for your lovely comments and thoughts, M, (*_*)
