The first violet of 2022 turned out to be a white one. I've known it as a harbinger of spring in classic poems but
I just learned that Australia used to have a 'Violet Day" to remember the fallen soldiers of World War I.
From now on, I'll think and take a moment to grieve about the victims of war whenever I see one of these lovely little flowers.
The autumnal anemones have their last show-up with full blossoms these weeks in the garden.
Die Herbstanemonen zeigen sich in diesen Wochen noch zum letzten Mal in voller Blüte im Garten.

The viola is a large family containing 500 species, they are on record in Greece from the 4th century B.C.
Later in Europe, it was discovered that a plant similar to a viola grew in open areas.
The plant found mostly in fields and amongst rocks in the Alps, hence Alpine.
It became known as a wild pansy (French: pensée). It might have been a romantic Frenchman who 'named' it...
A pensée can be a thought or a saying, short or it can be as long as a paragraph, a page, a poem!
Maybe he thought of his loved-one, dried one amongst some book he carried? Juste une pensée... lol.
These delicately fragrant flowers come in a wonderful variety of colours.
The dark centres in some flowers are thought to resemble little faces.
These are a smaller variety that I have in the garden, I could not resist photographing them in the studio...
Soon back in the garden.
As always, thank you for your lovely comments and thoughts, M, (*_*)

I have 10 African Violet plants, many have multiple plants growing in one pot... they are all in bloom!!
Very easy plant to grow... some of mine are over 30+ years old... they are in clay pots sitting in a bowl or tray... I water from the bottom once a week and never fertilize!!

Hummingbirds are common in my neighborhood because the trails nearby provide a very suitable habitat for them. Plus, many folks keep vibrant gardens in their backyard where flowers and nectar are plenty. I'm sure this little fellow is living his (her?) best life.
We had a patch of Violets mysteriously appear a couple of years ago, probably courtesy of the birds carrying seeds from our neighbours (across the street) garden. They are blooming beautifully now.
The Violet-crowned Hummingbird was the main reason we visited the Paton Center for Hummingbirds during our visit to Arizona this month and we were not disappointed. Most of my photos didn’t show off the violet crown but a little persistence paid off and in this shot the bird lives up to its name.

Amazilia violiceps
These insects are called dropwings because of their habit of immediately lowering their wings after landing on a perch. Males of this species are violet-red with red veins in the wings while females are yellow and brown. Both sexes have red eyes.

Mini African Violet flowers. Flowers are a bit bigger than the other times it flowered. Might be because there are a lot less. I hope you are having a happy day.
