A look across the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park to the mountains of Montana. Image captured using a Canon 7D and 17-55mm lens (at 44mm), 1/640 sec., f/8.0, ISO 200.
I took the previous shot of the summit of Mt. Si while standing on one of the rocky knobs. This is the view the other direction. Hurray, Mt. Ranier was not smothered in clouds! The town of North Bend is below and Rattlesnake Mountain, Mt. Washington and other peaks are laid out in the distance. I am so lucky there are so many terrific hikes within about an hour drive from my house.
There are some little people on the rocks below. The man's head sticks up so you might be able to see them.
This view shows you how huge the curtain was. The 5.5" custom ripple header gives depth and rhythm tot he curtain. Note how perfectly straight the seamline is!
Was at our brand new hospital in the south with my sister who was having her hand looked at, and was able to catch some views. It's a big building, quite lovely, and is right on the edge of town, not far from the city limits. A couple of brand new suburbs are being built south of it, and it was fun seeing all the hubbub. I'm not sure how hospitals where you are deal with this, but here, it's illegal for patients or staff to smoke on the property, so the smokers find a spot across the street from the hospital to go for a puff.
and the rooftop is burning against our skin and it's summer, and in my summer world there are no flight departures and friends leaving again, no autumn in sight, no musts, no dates, no times, no deadlines. or so i like to pretend
but i can't deny it...after all, i'm leaving too.
HDR of a view from inside a building in Pawnee Grasslands. You can tell by the noise inside that I had to crank up the exposure in Lightroom more than I wanted to. Next time I'll have to bracket wider (this was +/- 2) or maybe take a couple extra better-exposed shots.
Canon 40D & 16-35mm f/2.8L. 16mm, f/2.8, ISO200, 1/2500, 1/8000, 1/640 sec. Just setup the camera on the tripod and took three bracketed shots: 0, +/-2. Imported photos as DNGs into Aperture, then opened all as TIFFs into Photomatix and processed into HDR. No flash was used.

My wife and I took the trip she gave me for my birthday that we had to reschedule. This was actually rather fortunate since the water levels were much better than before and the sky was also nicer, and we took an extra day.
We got on the road Friday about 5 AM and made it down to the area fairly early in the morning. We stopped first at a roadside waterfall, then did 4 hikes that day to Upper Creek Falls, Little Lost Cove Cliffs, Big Lost Cove Cliffs, and Linville Falls.
Saturday we drove around primarily to see some waterfalls and hike, saw High Shoals Falls, Toms Creek Falls, Hickory Branch Falls, and ended the day at Linville Gorge. We were staying close by at a B&B.
I got up Sunday morning early and just the pup and I visited Wisemans View and saw this sunrise over Table Rock. Most of the time I see this in warmer months rising over Hawksbill. Pup is pretty adventuresome and he had me a little worried sometimes around these cliffs.
It was a great trip but had a few issues with the new camera and learning to use it, things are different than the old one. Seemed to have some focus problems on many of the shots, and I think my tripod now has a little slop in it...not even a year old.

Not everyone looks at the long-vacant husk of a former convenience store and gets visions of string quartets and piano recitals. But that’s exactly how it happened for Seth Boustead, the head of Access Contemporary Music.
In February 2023, in a cab traveling on North Clark Street, Boustead saw the familiar sight of the empty store at 4116, once a 7-Eleven, before that a White Hen Pantry. This time, the window had a “for rent” sign. After the cab ride, Boustead zipped back on his bicycle and peered in the dark windows.
“This would be an amazing chamber music venue,” he remembers thinking, dreaming of what is now scheduled to open in mid-September as the CheckOut. Previews in the new space have already begun, the first Thursday.
