Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn delivered remarks at the 2nd ASEAN Outstanding Social Welfare and Development Awards Ceremony via videoconference today. Dr Kao commended the awardees for their dedication and hard work in raising the standard of living for vulnerable peoples in the region, and in advancing gender equality and social inclusion. He encouraged the awardees to continue contributing to ASEAN’s work on promoting gender equality and social inclusion in the social welfare and development sector particularly in the implementation of the ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Framework and SOMSWD Work Plan 2021-2025 and Its Results Framework. The Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in partnership with UNFPA and the Maternal Health Task Force, is heading to Abuja, Nigeria, to co-host a two-day workshop from December 16-17 with the Centre for Population and Reproductive Health. On December 17, Nigerian policymakers, community health workers, program managers, and donors will join us in a discussion about what’s needed to improve maternal health systems in a live videoconference.
Over the last decade, Nigeria has seen only modest improvements in maternal health. Despite innovative efforts such as the Midwives Service Scheme, SURE-P, and Saving One Million Lives, maternal mortality rates stand at 565 per 100,000 live births and modern contraceptive prevalence is just 10 percent. Advocacy for national political commitment has been ongoing and there have been efforts to improve provision for entitlements, expand infrastructure, and increase access to drugs, but the scale of the country makes progress difficult.
With renewed commitment and concerted action, it’s possible for Nigeria to reach the goal of universal maternal health coverage, say Nigerian maternal health experts, but doing so will require focus on key areas of an unfinished agenda, including a strategic roadmap to acquire universal access, and examination of critical policy issues and recommendations.

The LibraryLinkNJ spring membership meeting was held via videoconference at three different locations on May 22: Rutgers University’s Alexander Library, Rowan University’s Chamberlain Student Center and William Paterson’s Cheng Library. After a welcome and remarks from Jane L. Crocker, president of LLNJ’s executive board and director of the Gloucester County College Library College, and Mary Chute, NJ State Librarian, Lynn Pascale, chair of the nominating committee, presented the proposed slate of officers for the next year; James Keehbler, chair of the strategic planning committee, reviewed the 2015-2016 strategic plan; and Ruth Bogan, treasurer went over the proposed Fiscal Year 2015 budget.
Following the business meeting, Geoff DiMasi, co-founder of Indy Hall in Philadelphia, discussed Libraries Today & Tomorrow: Incubators for Community, Business and Culture. Indy Hall is one of the earliest co-working spaces, known for incubating community with the goal of making Philadelphia a better place to live, work and learn. Due to its success in creating a truly engaged and participatory membership interested in being good citizens in their neighborhood, Indy Hall has become the model emulated worldwide. DiMasi shared what he learned by cultivating a co-working community and how public, school, academic and special libraries can apply this model.
The CARICOM Secretariat Staff Talent Exhibition 2015 was declared opened by the CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, on Wednesday 25 November in the Large Conference Room at the 11:00 a.m. Opening Ceremony of the event.
The Welcome Remarks were delivered by Mr. Delmar Tobin, Senior Project Officer, Human Resource Management (HRM).
Staff Talent 2015 is being observed under the theme, "Utilizing Talents, Boosting Economies".

The Staff Talent Exhibition will continue until Friday 27 November 2015 with How-To-Show, Culinary, Dance-A-Thon, Dance, Mixology, Grill Master, Fashion Display and other activities.
Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn attended the 11th Annual Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) today via videoconference. Dr. Kao highlighted ASEAN’s significant milestones in protecting and empowering vulnerable groups through comprehensive and coordinated initiatives. Dr. Kao underscored the ongoing implementation of the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025: Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Regional Plan of Action on Implementing the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Ageing, and the ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Social Protection, among others.

Goksenin Sens, Ship2Shore marine educator, decorates a styrofoam cup to be sent to the bottom of the sea. The cup will collapse under sea pressure, then be sent to the Watkins Glen Elementary school in New York as a souvenier from a videoconference.
Ms. Sens is studying for a PhD in Education at the University of Victoria, and is a volunteer for the Ocean Networks Canada Centre for Education & Enterprise Ship2Shore Marine Educator programme.

In addition to its 14 community forums around BC, the Community Gaming Grant Review is also hearing from individuals and organizations via video conference.
The Review, headed by Skip Triplett, spent the afternoon of August 24 via video hook-up in Cranbrook hearing ideas and submissions from groups in Fort Nelson and Masset.
Similar conferences were done August 17 in Port McNeill, Valemount and Revelstoke.
NATO Allied Land Command Deputy Commander, British Army Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell at the videoconference. The conference, hosted by Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Tod D. Wolters, provided an opportunity for commanders across Allied Command Operations to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on NATO missions, operations and activities.

Tomorrow, I am connecting with a gifted educator from England named Joe Dale. He is presenting a session on using Skype in the classroom at the BETT Show in London, and he asked me to connect virtually to tell the attendees about some of the experiences that my students and I have had.
It will be my first transatlantic professional development presentation and I am, in all honesty, completely stoked. The plan is to have just me Skype in tomorrow and then add my students into the mix for the following three days.
Let's hope all goes well and I bring no disgrace to my country!

Scenes from COSI's "Total Knee Replacement" interactive videoconference program, taken in April 2014.
Several schools from across Ohio connected to Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus through COSI to experience a live total knee replacement surgery.
Students were able to see and hear the surgery in real time and to ask questions of the surgical team.
One school participated in the 90-minute program from COSI's own Galaxy Theater.

Seventh grade students at Gillette Road Middle School in Cicero, NY participated in a three-part program that begins with a videoconference of American Signs and Symbols. After delving into the symbols in Bartholdi's maquette and Zeldis' painting, art teacher Elizabeth Abbott challenged her students to create a work that involves appropriation and personal symbols. Each student also wrote their own artist's statement to accompany the artwork. In a reverse presentation, the student artists shared their work with docents at American Art.

RSD 5th Grade Class Meets NAD CEO 09/13/13
On Friday, September 13, 2013, Rochester School for the Deaf 4th graders in Ms. Sarah Gordon's classroom met National Association of the Deaf Chief Executive Officer Mr. Howard Rosenblum through the schools’ videoconferencing system. Mr. Rosenblum, who was in his office at the NAD headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, started as the Chief Executive Officer of the NAD in April 2011 and also serves as an ex officio member of the NAD Board of Directors. He came to the NAD after 19 years as a lawyer, focusing his practice on disability rights and special education law.
Ms. Gordon's students asked Mr. Rosenblum about the history of the NAD, its purpose and how the current organization is structured. Mr. Rosenblum emphasized to the students that the NAD is here to advocate for all Deaf Americans. He encouraged students to volunteer in the community, to study hard in school and to set goals to attend college or to follow a path to productive and meaningful employment after high school.
RSD 4th graders videoconference with Mr. Rosenblum was one of many activities at the school to commemorate International Week of the Deaf.
