In-Depth: Autopsy is a videoconference program for Grades 10 and up offered by COSI, Columbus, Ohio's Center of Science and Industry. Students follow a videotape of an actual autopsy accompanied by live narration by retired forensic pathologist Dr. Larry Tate. Participants must work through the "case" and solve for cause of death.
The autopsy is shown from the Y-incision to the removal of the brain and is 90-minutes long. Teens, adults, and community groups are welcome. Individual tickets are available for non-school audiences and individuals to watch from COSI's Galaxy Theater.
Teachers will be sent a kit of materials prior to the program. In the kit, teachers will find materials to conduct both pre- and post-visit activities along with booklets for students to use during the program.

In this award-winning human anatomy program for grades 10 and up, students follow a videotape of an actual human autopsy accompanied by live narration from an Ohio State University pathology resident, in this case, Dr. Sean Kirby, with COSI educator Kyle Jepson facilitating.
Students must take careful notes during the procedure, work through the "case," and solve for cause of death.
Schools from across the United States and beyond connect to COSI for this program. During the program pictured here, schools from four states participated, including Ohio, New Jersey, New York, and Wisconsin.

The CARICOM Secretariat Staff Talent Exhibition 2015 was declared opened by the CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, on Wednesday 25 November in the Large Conference Room at the 11:00 a.m. Opening Ceremony of the event.
The Welcome Remarks were delivered by Mr. Delmar Tobin, Senior Project Officer, Human Resource Management (HRM).
Staff Talent 2015 is being observed under the theme, "Utilizing Talents, Boosting Economies".
Present at the Opening Ceremony were: Mrs. Sandra LaRocque, wife of CARICOM SG; Dr. Douglas Slater, ASG Joseph Cox, Ambassador Gail Mathurin, Ms. Myrna Bernard and other Members of EMC and SMC; several Staff Members from the CCS HQ, CCS Annex and the OTN Office, Barbados.

The Staff Talent Exhibition will continue until Friday 27 November 2015 with How-To-Show, Culinary, Dance-A-Thon, Dance, Mixology, Grill Master, Fashion Display and other activities.
Simon Brown (http://www.twitter.com/skytrystsjoy) asked me to do a professional development session for the TAFE's VE Mentoring group. Initially I was intending to be in Brisbane on-site, but it didn't work out that way so I joined by VC. Was worried abt linking up to so many sites (10 or 12?) but they were all very practiced with a skilled facilitator getting the session going. And it went off without a technical hitch.
The group is interesting as they have librarians and teachers working together, with the librarians acting as technology guides. Must find out more.
In this case, Simon wanted me to talk to them about my work as eLearning Advisor at EIT and how we are rolling out e-learning projects and embedding e in the institution.
I intended to talk about our e-Learning community of practice and how we've set up our major e-learning projects. What I did talk about was EDUCAUSE (edaust09), Twitter and Moodle. And hammered on about the importance of PLEs for teachers as well.
Still very good and hope to catch up with them again.

The Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in partnership with UNFPA and the Maternal Health Task Force, is heading to Abuja, Nigeria, to co-host a two-day workshop from December 16-17 with the Centre for Population and Reproductive Health. On December 17, Nigerian policymakers, community health workers, program managers, and donors will join us in a discussion about what’s needed to improve maternal health systems in a live videoconference.
Over the last decade, Nigeria has seen only modest improvements in maternal health. Despite innovative efforts such as the Midwives Service Scheme, SURE-P, and Saving One Million Lives, maternal mortality rates stand at 565 per 100,000 live births and modern contraceptive prevalence is just 10 percent. Advocacy for national political commitment has been ongoing and there have been efforts to improve provision for entitlements, expand infrastructure, and increase access to drugs, but the scale of the country makes progress difficult.
With renewed commitment and concerted action, it’s possible for Nigeria to reach the goal of universal maternal health coverage, say Nigerian maternal health experts, but doing so will require focus on key areas of an unfinished agenda, including a strategic roadmap to acquire universal access, and examination of critical policy issues and recommendations.

Seventh grade students at Gillette Road Middle School in Cicero, NY participated in a three-part program that begins with a videoconference of American Signs and Symbols. After delving into the symbols in Bartholdi's maquette and Zeldis' painting, art teacher Elizabeth Abbott challenged her students to create a work that involves appropriation and personal symbols. Each student also wrote their own artist's statement to accompany the artwork. In a reverse presentation, the student artists shared their work with docents at American Art.

The LibraryLinkNJ spring membership meeting was held via videoconference at three different locations on May 22: Rutgers University’s Alexander Library, Rowan University’s Chamberlain Student Center and William Paterson’s Cheng Library. After a welcome and remarks from Jane L. Crocker, president of LLNJ’s executive board and director of the Gloucester County College Library College, and Mary Chute, NJ State Librarian, Lynn Pascale, chair of the nominating committee, presented the proposed slate of officers for the next year; James Keehbler, chair of the strategic planning committee, reviewed the 2015-2016 strategic plan; and Ruth Bogan, treasurer went over the proposed Fiscal Year 2015 budget.
Following the business meeting, Geoff DiMasi, co-founder of Indy Hall in Philadelphia, discussed Libraries Today & Tomorrow: Incubators for Community, Business and Culture. Indy Hall is one of the earliest co-working spaces, known for incubating community with the goal of making Philadelphia a better place to live, work and learn. Due to its success in creating a truly engaged and participatory membership interested in being good citizens in their neighborhood, Indy Hall has become the model emulated worldwide. DiMasi shared what he learned by cultivating a co-working community and how public, school, academic and special libraries can apply this model.
Student volunteers from the Ohio State University help COSI team members assemble the hundreds of classroom kits which are mailing to schools participating in COSI's Interactive Videoconference (IVC) programs.
Most COSI IVC programs come with a classroom kit to help teachers and their students to explore science topics in greater depth and details. Thank you to our fantastic OSU student volunteers!

Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn attended the 11th Annual Ministerial Meeting for Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) today via videoconference. Dr. Kao highlighted ASEAN’s significant milestones in protecting and empowering vulnerable groups through comprehensive and coordinated initiatives. Dr. Kao underscored the ongoing implementation of the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025: Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Regional Plan of Action on Implementing the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Ageing, and the ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Social Protection, among others.
