In May 2018 I was invited as artist on board on Kleronia, a 18 mt. cutter, in team with a video maker, a writer and a few skippers, to support the “Cognition in the wind” research project directed by Roberto Casati (Institut Jean Nicod, CNRS ENS EHESS, Paris). We navigate between Rome, the Pontine Islands and Gaeta. Watch a video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TpY-AeXRNk

I crocheted the two panels on the left! They had a party tonight with other google chrome video makers, and I stopped by quickly just to see it all finished.

Antonella Palermo - Radio Vaticana

Marcell Shehwaro - Dispatches From Syria

Lorenzo Trombetta - ANSA

Eva Ziedan- archaeologist

A group of Syrian reporters, photographers and video-makers from all the Syrian regions risk their lives to document the daily and often silent struggle of the members of civil society who are working to keep the country united against the gangs, warlords, external interference and general indifference.

Antonella Palermo introduces two Syrian representatives of these realities: Marcell Shehwaro for the journalists and Eve Ziedan for the civil society - accompanied by Lorenzo Trombetta, a journalist based in Beirut and a scholar of Syria.

in one of the most engaging panels of the conferences, political video makers and publishers discussed the effectiveness. Actually things were pretty uninteresting until they opened up fro questions from the impressive audience, including a Brit diplomat who resigned over Iraq and a lady who nicely pointed out the white, masoganistic bias of their trade. Wow! Sadly I had to bail early to help with RippleRap, kinda sums the whole trip up for me.

Groupe LAPS / Thomas Veyssiére

Originally commissioned for the Fete des Lumières Lyon

LED stick men that danced all over Liberty House.

Groupe LAPS brought the magic of movement to London with their delightful, dancing stick men. This nocturnal artwork charmed audiences with its story, taking over Liberty House on Regent Street. Part animation and part moving sculpture, the LED figures gave energy and excitement to the building with their routine inspired by iconic video games. Part of the KEYFRAMES series, this installation brought glimmers of the past to life and offered an opportunity to reminisce.

Based in France, Groupe LAPS is a collective of artists who are interested in using light in urban environments to tell stories. Comprising video makers, artists, musicians and lighting experts, the group create technical pieces that enchant audiences. Groupe LAPS’ work swings between reality and fiction, and their fleeting installations always have long-lasting impacts.

I received a marketing email telling me how GREAT a new video making product is, because it works in conjunction with a piece of software almost everyone already has.

Cool!

So I go to check it out, and guess what?

They NEVER show you what the videos you’ll be making will look like.

Not ONE single example!

Worse still, the video they use to sell the video maker is a regular talking head type of video, NOT the kind you’re supposed to be able to make with this software.

What thinking person will take this offer seriously?

It’s like someone trying to sell you their artwork without letting you SEE the artwork.

If you’re selling software, and especially video creation software, let people see what it can do, rather than just telling them.

Otherwise, who’s going to believe you?

We’re starting to create a time machine for our next art project at ‘Pataphysical Studios. Guests will be invited to step into our magic portal and travel to different time periods, which we will recreate as short scenes, through a variety of audio, video, maker art and mixed media. We’re now brainstorming and prototyping ideas for this interactive art project, which we plan to build collectively in coming years. If you liked the ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine, we hope this new piece will transport you even further. Fire in the hole!
