HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
Yesterday morning, 30 June 2019, I woke up earlier than usual. Once I was on my computer, I checked the weather forecast and saw raindrop icons in the forecast for the next week, but yesterday was for sun. I knew what I had to do! Luckily, I had a tank full of gas, so I grabbed both cameras and a snack or two, and headed out the door. I must be the only person who hadn't been to Kananaskis recently and taken photos of the tiny Pikas (Rock Rabbits), and that was my destination.
This is a long weekend for Canada Day, and my plan had been to keep off the roads, as I was sure they would be busy, making it more difficult to stop whenever I wanted, to take a photo or two. However, when I saw the weather forecast, it changed my mind. Sunshine, blue sky with clouds, made it a perfect day to be out - I'm sure you agreed, Bonnie : )
A day in Kananaskis is always great, but sometimes 'great' turns out to be fantastic! Can't believe how lucky I was, not just in the mountains, but on the journey there and, at the end of the day, calling in at my 'usual' area closer to home.
I suspect the Pika is most people's favourite - around 6 inches long and almost impossible to see against the mountainside of broken rocks that are the same colour as the Pika's fur. Starting to believe that maybe I was going to be out of luck, the first one appeared, racing in and out and over and between the endless, sharp rocks. Take your eyes off the animal and you stand a good chance of not being able to find it again. Then a second one appeared, a baby - which I think is the one on this photo. It perched itself on top of this rock and simply stayed there for a few minutes. Several of my photos show the eyes closing slightly. However, eventually it did move, and off it went. When it appeared not too far away, I caught sight of it and thought at first it was a mouse, ha. So tiny!
While I was searching for a Pika, a herd of Bighorn Sheep had come down the massive mountain side and, as they usually do, gathered right in the middle of the road to lick salt left by vehicles. After quite a time, there was an almighty BOOM that startled me and a handful of others. We hadn't noticed a Park's truck arrive, armed with 'bangers' to make the Sheep move from the road. Once the Park's person had left, the Sheep returned to the road. There were several young ones along with the females.
It will take me ages to go through my photos, especially having to combine two cameras, but lots of images can wait till winter. More important, to me, is to continue editing and posting the remaining Texas photos.
as previously mentioned...
patton and i square off to settle once and for all who is the superior being.
i really think you will enjoy the video : ) : ) : )
Frame grab from the strap-on videocam on the Brighthawk modified cluster rocket.
Originally set up to be a drag race, Erik's Minnie Magg on a J500G motor was a little slow coming up to pressure, but then he blasts past me in the blink of an eye (from the center to the top right corner).
My two booster motors were supposed to ignite by computer to make it a closer race, but alas, everything worked except that both igniters failed to provide enough burn to actually light the Blackjack propellant in the boosters. (Next time, I'll go with something easy like G40s for the airstart boosters.)
So I did not get much altitude. In the video, the parachute swivel helped reduce twisting on the return. And upon ground landing, you can see one of the heavy unlit motors pop out of the back.
Past drag races with Erik have been a tie, and we have tried many times to catch one rocket launching from another, but here we finally caught it during ascent. (video)

This video shows the development of a scratchboard drawing from an old mugshot.
The picture (which you can see here) is part of a series that I'm working on, some of which can be seen in my Artwork set.
---------------------------------------------------
Scratchboard was invented as a way of making something look like a woodcut without the effort of cutting the wood. It was meant to be used by advertising illustrators as it reproduced well in newspapers.
It's made by coating a sheet of card in fine clay and then painting a layer of black ink on top. You draw the picture by scraping the black away to show the white beneath. (You buy it ready-made, of course, because, if you made it yourself, you'd surely end up with a big soggy, inky splodge of clay-soaked card.)
You'll probably have done something similar with black crayons over coloured paper, maybe? Perhaps in the early years of school?
Another video capture from today with a sepia filter. Laughing at myself in this video because I was trying too hard to look sexy, I had my phone on a mini tripod and was looking in a mirror when posing. I played with the video and it looks good so may post it tomorrow.
Video of a soap film made using a little action camera with the lens unscrewed about 50' (just over 1/4 turn) to allow close focus.
The soap mix is joy detergent with some glycerol in- guessing about 5 to 10ml of each to 100ml water.
The movement every now and then is me blowing on the film to mix it up a bit

When I take a video still as a photo and upload it to Flickr, it still has the correct the date from when the pic was taken. If any alterations have been made to the pic, it will have the same time and date as when it was uploaded. This feature has made me wanna go back and repost all my old pics in chronological order. Hope you understand.
The Virgin Wife Chronicles is an inspirational online serial where I share my journey through an unconsummated marriage.
We all experience similar emotions and struggles in our trials, presented in different circumstances. At the core, we are all the same. We all want to love and be loved. We all experience loss and grief. We all experience hopelessness and rage. We all experience faith and hope. We all yearn for the same courage and peace. We all strive to find our way and be better.
The Virgin Wife Chronicles will take you on a journey of all of these things, making you laugh, cry, and hope. Come join me.
I have made another dumb video! It drops on Saturday. As you can see, I made a bit of a mess along the way. Oh what an absolute joy it was to clean this shit up!
No, thankfully it wasn't a cooking video. But I will be singing in this video. You have been warned!

... it is my old Blackbird knowing since 2008 here sitting in the Ilex. After this video we had a "date" at the fence with more little songs.
Yep. Just testing out how my D7000 and 35mm 1.8 handles having something in front of the lens. It's the first video I've ever made and the first time I've used iMovie. It's so fun to procrastinate with.
The autofocus on my lens can be so loud in the video so I'm thinking I'll have to get an external mic soon. Maybe.
