Ferndale is a very attractive town, located in northwest California. It is full of beautifully restored Victorian homes and businesses.
In uptown Saint John; sunflowers were a bit past their prime by this date. By the way, I'm just guessing the age of the house-----it could possibly be post-Victorian, early 1900s. Someone with more knowledge of the subject might be able to clarify this for us.
House Moving 21st Century Style: While building moving is no new thing in Chicago, the moving today of Henry Ives Cobb's Rees House one block north on Prairie Ave (to a site two blocks south of Glessner House) has been called, at 762 tons, the heaviest house move in US history. It's a dubious honor. The Rees House was in the way of a stadium to be built adjacent to the ever expanding McCormick Place Convention Center. A preservation easement on the exterior and City Landmarking of both the exterior and interior (which has survived amazingly well) couldn't prevent the power of eminent domain from taking over the site, but they did put pressure on to move the house itself. The house is sitting in the middle of Prairie Ave tonight and will be moved into place tomorrow.

Here is a closer look at part of the Pullman mural. This section of the mural shows a small group of men working on the wheel of a Pullman train many a year ago.

The Old Bank is relatively modern compared to the many timber framed buildings in Chapel Street. However, it is a fine example of Victorian architecture in vivid, red brick. Now housing the HSBC Bank, The Old Bank is worth external study. Here, look out for the capitals of the marble columns on each side of the entrance porch and a mosaic of the Shakespeare above the entrance.

If you’d like to view my images larger… While I only allow my contacts to view my larger images (I generally upload at least 800px images on the long axis)…
a quick workaround I might suggest is to view my photostream as a slideshow. Works well for me. This is frequently how I view others’ ‘streams, and it will put a large image on black. just click the projector screen icon next to the stream or set. : )

In the late 19th century James Columbus Neely made several changes in this home. The walls were painted a deep forest green and gold leaf fleur-de-lis were placed on top.
