...and a surivivor from the 1906 earthquake and fire. "Painted Ladies" is the generic term for San Francisco's Victorian and Edwardian era buildings and are widely found in the city's southern and western district - a delightfully polychromatic facet of San Francisco's culture.

I love this photo. The Gordon Setter is my favorite part. I know the woman on the porch is Mrs. Renfree, but don't know the other woman. Do you suppose she walked over with her dog? This photo was the basis for much of the exterior restoration.

Port Erin echoes Douglas by being be-jewelled with lots of lovely Victorian architecture. It's high-maintenance stuff, especially with the depradations from the salty air from the Irish Sea. Happily, developers of modern condominium-type properties have so far kept away, but they are sadly cutting a swathe through Douglas.
The chancel is a riot of decoration with a Minton tiled floor and a high altar carved from alabaster by Thomas Roddis.

A Victorian red brick reminder of the past.
The University was established in 1881 as University College Liverpool, in 1882. In 1884, it became part of the federal Victoria University.
Following a Royal Charter and Act of Parliament in 1903, it became an independent university with the right to confer its own degrees called the University of Liverpool.

State Library of Victoria. La Trobe Reading Room. My favourite thing about this room is the way it is flooded with natural light from the dome above (featured later in this set). Aside from the desk lamps, during the day natural light is the main light source for this room, making for easy reading, and a beautiful place to study. 17/10/2013

Set on the banks of the River Thames, All Saints Church in Marlow rises like a stone sentinel beneath a flawless spring sky. This striking Victorian Gothic church was built in 1835–36, designed by architect Charles Langrishe. With its elaborate tower and elegant lancet windows, it replaced an older medieval structure on the same site. Today, it stands not only as a place of worship but also as a symbol of Marlow’s heritage — a blend of sacred purpose and civic pride. In spring, surrounded by fresh foliage and weathered gravestones, the church radiates timeless serenity.
