An anonymously published postcard showing Victoria Embankment looking east from Hungerford Bridge. From the left the Hotel Cecil, Cleopatra's Needle, Somerset House and the old Waterloo Bridge. The London County Council paddle steamer "Turner" has just left Charing Cross pier for its next stop downstream, probably Waterloo Pier. "Turner" was built for the ill fated LCC riverboat service by Napier & Miller Co. Ltd in Glasgow, when the service ceased in 1907 she was laid up for two years until she was sold to a German company for service on the River Rhine, all for the sum of £500.00, she had cost the LCC more than £6000.00..

Situated beneath Kingsway opposite the tube station. This station still exists albeit disused. Here E3 tram 185 draws into the northbound platform whilst another waits in the southbound.

On the model the roof/road surface of Kingsway is a sheet of clear plastic.

Mary Keitany has a long lead at 24 miles, having pushed on at 15. She won in 2:19:19, fourth equal fastest in the world, a lifetime best, and in the same year as she set the world half marathon record.

The usual view of these gates is from the other side on the Victoria Embankment. The street used to be called Derby Street until public access was restricted and it became an access road and parking lot. The signs of building work on the left are to do with the conversion of New Scotland to M.P.'s offices, a fate which eventually befell Cannon Row Police Station.

This is 1909 and three of the London County Council paddle steamers are moored in the middle of the Thames after the LCC riverboat service failed. All three boats, Fitzailwin, Edmund Ironside and Christopher Wren were purchased by the City Steamboat Company in 1909 and continued service on the Thames until 1916 when all three were commandeered by the War Office for service in Mesopotamia where they served the Royal Indian Marine on the River Tigris, none returned to the UK.

In 1952 following a number of Burglaries in the West End a man was stopped near the Dorchester Hotel in possession of a telescopic walking stick which he had used as a ladder to enter first floor windows, he had used bolts as the rungs of the ladder which fitted into evenly spaced holes. Here the telescopic walking stick is demonstrated at the Curtis Green Building on Victoria Embankment.

The Curtis Green Building was built in 1937 as an extension to New Scotland Yard, it is now proposed to sell New Scotland Yard in Victoria Street and move the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police to the Curtis Green Building and rename it 'Scotland Yard', confused?, you will be.

A lamppost dating from the year 1900, installed by / for London County Council. It looks interesting with that figure of a woman and the two shields.
