The listed Victorian footbridge over the River Trent in Nottingham. Taken around midnight as a long exposure shot in the dark.
Another one taken early morning last year. The cranes along the river are part of the Tideway project (aka The Super Sewer) - www.tideway.london/locations/blackfriars-bridge-foreshore/.

Today I noticed almost a mass emergence of Common Darters, I saw 15 or so Teneral Common Darters flying up from the waters edge of the Grantham Canal. I decided to see if any were emerging from the fountain this year. Sure enough I found many exuviae around the wall of the fountain and then I found this poor individual.
I found this one this afternoon, after watching for a while I soon realised that it was a failed emergence. For whatever reason this is as far as this one got, The head had just broken through and then I guess something went wrong. So anyway I took a 22 image focus stack using my 1000D, ISO 200, aperture F/6.3 and a 1/160 shutter speed. Thought it made an interesting image.

Went out this morning to hopefully get some emergence shots, probably should have got there an hour earlier, but did find a few Common Darters mid emergence. This is a female she had just made the emergence, she will now spend some time pumping those wings out and then she will rest to let everyting harden up a bit. Once the wings are functional they usually fly up somewhere high and rest.
Anyway, got loads of shots and a few stacks. This was a single shot at F/7.1 using a mixture of ambient light and flash.

A freshly emerged Common Darter portrait from Monday morning, I found plenty of these recently emerged Dragonflies on the walls around the fountain at the Memorial Park. So I tried to get a few close up portraits of these beauties. They were swaying in the wind a bit, but every so often the wind would die and I'd try for another portrait focus stack.
When focus stacking I have to shoot JPEG's with the 1000D as it doesn't cope well in RAW and tends to start buffering after 3 shots, which slows things down too much. This was a 15 image focus stack using using an F/7.1 aperture, ISO 200 and a 1/160 aperture. I used the MP-E 65mm at x2 mag and a diffused flash was used.
Taken last night at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Cropped it a tiny bit but otherwise as it came out of the camera.

Boadicea and Her Daughters is a bronze sculptural group in London representing Boudica, queen of the Celtic Iceni tribe, who led an uprising in Roman Britain. It is located to the north side of the western end of Westminster Bridge, near Portcullis House and Westminster Pier, facing Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster across the road. It is considered the magnum opus of its sculptor, the English artist and engineer Thomas Thornycroft. Thornycroft worked on it from 1856 until shortly before his death in 1885, sometimes assisted by his son William Hamo Thornycroft, but it was not erected in its current position until 1902.
The statue is Grade II Listed.
One from last years Common Darter emergence images, doesn't look like I will get any of these this year as they emptied the water feature where I was finding these, so that meant all those poor Darters that went to so much effort last year have gone to waste. I wouldn't like to guess how many eggs and nymphs perished after they decided to empty the water out for cleaning, no fair :o(
Anyway a Common Darter recently emerged and waiting to start expanding those wings :o)
Went to see "Guardians Of The Galaxy", it was awesome, Groot was the best LOL :O)

One from a few weeks back on a night shoot down at the Embankment. Thought mono would work best for this classic shot of Trent Bridge.
The embankment along the river Trent has always been a favourite summer walk of ours and even more so when theres a beautiful sunset
HMS President, previously named HMS Saxifrage was commissioned in 1918 as a U-boat hunter and after its active service it was moored on Victoria Embankment in 1922 and used as many things and by many organisations, latterly a function room. It was moved to Chatham Dockyards not long after this photo was taken hopefully to be refurbished and re-utilised. It has a unique place in our naval history and well worth looking up on the web.
On the occasion of the commemoration of the beginning of World War I one hundred years ago, the Frankfurt conceptual artist Tobias Rehberger (*1966) painted the former warship 'HMS President' with those geometric patterns that were used as 'dazzle camouflage' by the British Navy in World War I. The painting was intended to confuse the enemy's warships and submarines and to deceive them about the size and speed of the British ships. In 2014, HMS President was anchored for 6 months on Victoria Embankment near Blackfriars Bridge on the north bank of the Thames.

Anläßlich des Gedenkens an den hundert Jahre zurückliegenden Beginn des 1. Weltkriegs bemalte der Frankfurter Konzeptkünstler Tobias Rehberger (*1966) das frühere Kriegsschiff 'HMS President' mit jenen geometrischen Mustern, die als 'dazzle camouflage' im 1. Weltkrieg von der britischen Marine eingesetzt wurde. Die Bemalung sollte die Kriegsschiffe und U-Boote des Feindes verwirren und über Größe und Geschwindigkeit der britischen Schiffe täuschen. 2014 ging die HMS President für 6 Monate am Victoria Embankment nahe der Blackfriars Bridge am nördlichen Ufer der Themse vor Anker.
