Loving this Lensbaby Velvet for my soft, dreamy picture obsession.

HBW!

Surely one bird that I was super excited when I saw the result. its not that I have not seen in the past or made images in the past but its the satisfaction of a frame that I felt is worthy to have !!!

For a Peaceful Blue Monday!

This medium-sized hummingbird looks all blackish in poor light (and they are always in poor light), but at the right angle, it turns into a dazzling gem with a purple belly and crown, turquoise sides, and greenish wing coverts. Note bright white flashes in the tail. Like other coronets, it holds its wings up for a few seconds when it lands, exposing rich chestnut underwings. Sexes similar. Very restricted range in western Colombia and Ecuador, where it is generally uncommon in moist cloud forest and edges in the lower subtropical zone. Visits feeders. Picture taken at Saschatamia Lodge, Ecuador.

Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

Smile on Saturday theme view the V... I have a clear glass vase on my black velvet background. That cloth flower could be a violet. I don't know. Google was all over the place.

Getting up even earlier than usual has proven one thing . . . I get to see lots of deer out in the morning. This is one of a family of three that I managed to spend a bit of time with this morning. Love those velvet antlers.

What’s up guys? For a second there today looked promising here in Chicago! Not so much now, but I really hope something will change by tonight. This is the crescent moon over Ulysses S. Grant Monument from this morning at Lincoln Park. What do you think?

Velvet-purple Coronets really shine amidst a family of stunning, jewel-toned hummingbirds. Their name alone conjures color and opulence and smooth whiskey. It is among the most dazzling of all birds.

When researching and reading reviews on the Lensbaby Velvet, it was made quite clear that it was not a Landscape Lens, which I agree to a point. Looking at all the wonderful images on Flickr its clearly a macro/flower lens and that is where it shines.

I took this image originally using apertures f2.8 f4 f8 even f16 and its so sharp it could be used for Landscape but then it became just an ordinary image. So I opened up the lens to f1.6 and got this beautiful image of my woodland. This is my morning run, 4 miles of bliss and its also Daisies Dog Walk. I found a green luscious area with lots of ferns and a gate and big old oak trees, which are plentiful and came up with this rather ethereal image.

Have a lovely Thursday

One of my keep-from-going-crazy activities has been making velvet "acorns" filled with emery sand so that they can be used as pin cushions.

The early glow of sunrise over the rolling hills reveals the velvet textures of the landscape.

I'm pretty certain this type of velvet with cut-away design has it's own name, but I can't think what it is! Anyway - it drapes beautifully and I usually use it for backgrounds , but this time it comes into it's own for the Macro Monday theme.

Cleverly disguised as a tombstone at Highland Cemetery in Ft Wright Ky. He finally got tired of watching me and walked down into the woods. The trees will take a beating as he rubs the velvet off his antlers.

I have a passion for fabric and my drawers are full of cloth, mostly for patchwork. Log time I had no clue what to photograph for this week's theme. An upholstery image yesterday gave me inspiration for this shot.

Have a great week ahead, friends!

Best in large.

We've finally had the rain we needed, so I'm happy as the fire risk has passed now and things will start really growing now. My daughter and granddaughters are coming today so I need to tidy the house and get something for lunch. It'll be great to see them again . velvet snow is by Kings of Leon.

The cap of Velvet Shank (Flammulina velutipes) becomes distinctly slimy when wet. Good enough to eat? In Japan, enoki is grown for the pot, but is a pale cousin of this beautiful winter fungus.

Deer and other wildlife in parks often acclimatize to humans and loose their natural fear. This is good for wildlife photographers, but bad for wildlife. Once they leave the protection of the park they are easy targets for hunters and poachers. I easily approached to within 50 feet of this a small group of deer very near the Tioga Pass entrance. They largely ignored me. I hope they stay in the park and don't stray into nearby Inyo National Forest.

Nothing like a surprised look from a Spring time buck sporting his little velvets. :)
