Velvet Shank - Flammulina velutipes, is one of the few fungi which grows in winter. It is distinctly velvety to the touch (hence the name). Found on dead Elm trees, likes deciduous woodland.

Although this fungi is edible, it could be easily confused with similar looking species, so please get an expert opinion before tasting any wild fungi. Get it wrong and there isn't a second chance! I like to admire it and then leave it for someone to admire, safer that way! :)

Red lily on the neighborhood. I've been very busy lately, I'll catch with you maybe tomorrow!

Thanks for your visit and taking the time to comment so I can visit your photos, too... very much appreciated! Have a great day!

Velvet Leaf plant

For Macro Mondays. Theme: Leaf

A gift for my Flickr friends!!

The flower has been notably featured in the graphic novel V for Vendetta, but in the movie version, is renamed to the fictitious "Scarlet Carson" which Ruth grows for her partner (Valerie) and V grows during his imprisonment in the Larkhill Resettlement Camp. They were portrayed in the film by red 'Grand Prix' roses.

I wonder if there is a flower as loved and recognized by many like the rose. I love photographing flowers, but my favorite of course is the rose. A simply bud could be a beautiful display in the garden, vase or somebody's hand, and it is so unique that plant can stand very low temperatures before going dormant during the winter months.

Where to start when we talk about the rose? It is difficult since there is a huge variety, but I found a something very interesting that you might light to take a look:

Did you now that choosing a rose by color have a special meaning? So before you give somebody roses, do a little research ;)

Photography is one of my passions, and nature photography is my favorite.

I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.

I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!

The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

I am posting 2 images today, this one here where I filled the frame with the fabric (for SoS) and one from autumn where I used the scarf in a still life. It is made out of velvet and sheer fabric with glittery silver embroidery. A colleague brought it from Turkey a few years ago.

I consider it very fancy, so much so that I hardy ever use it for fear of damaging it.

Found on a recent trip to a garden centre, the blackest flower I have ever seen, a variety of petunia called Black Velvet that just had to be purchased for photographic purposes.
