thanks to my friend charity for the new vanity fair. i have a not-so-secret love for mr clooney..he's such a throwback to real gentlemen of the golden era...suave, funny, goodlooking, smart, political(proud to be a liberal!)..and well, straight(or i'd like to think he's straight! i've been dumb enough to fall for anderson cooper who everybody knows, except for myself, is gay!). if only there was somebody like him in real life!
Agathla Peak, revisited.
So named By the Navajo, this peak stands as an introduction to Monument Valley on state highway 163 from Page, AZ or Kayenta, UT. Since it is so accessible and basically in an open field, that makes it a perfect subject at over 1500 feet tall on the already striking 8000 foot Southern Colorado Plateau floor. Because it is just a ‘side off the road’ type stop, it is completely peaceful and it has become one of our favorite stops.
One of the short discussions I had with Scott on this trip was how Photography is a lot like Golf. It only takes that one dead-on shot to fuel the quest to continue playing through what-ever comes your way.
This would be my 8 iron from 150 yards into a cross breeze, that bounces off the pin and settles safely a few feet from the cup!
We had not been quite as lucky with Monument valley, even though many ‘stars’ were due to align. We had figured that the near full moon was all set to rise, squarely over or between the Mittens. Who could ask for more? Well, how about a clear eastern sky. Well that was the only part of the sky with clouds! Just to top it off, we had no idea that Merritt Butte goes into shadows about 45 minutes before the mittens and the rest of the valley, this time of year.
Once again as happened last year the clouds that hurt us at Monument Valley, became an asset to Agathla under Full Moon light. This is my 4th long exposure upon arriving after dark and after a 300 yard walk across the pasture. From last year I knew the moving clouds really made the shot and from our earlier stop during day light I knew this off road track was out here. I pretty much made a b-line to align the two for this shot (foreground and background) while MumbleyJoe, LionTX and Scott took in more direct Moonlight from the near the roadside. Even still, I could not predict just how dramatic the long exposure shot on these clouds would appear. They were not moving very quickly and of course you just don’t get this same look, by being there.
90 seconds seemed to a sweet spot for the full moon light from what was at little more than a 90 degree angle for me. Once I saw this on the D90’s awesome 3 inch LCD I packed my gear and went back to the car. We did drive up the side road another half mile for a different angle and I will post that shot another day.

From the archive : Jonathan timed his dive perfectly, connecting with the crust and pulling out mere inches above the water. Unfortunately it was the soggy white stuff so he circled around waiting for the elusive wholemeal bread to appear.
We have been floating through a very dangerous liminal space these past two years—somewhere between the old and future orders, the post-Cold War and the war that has yet to break out—and we are faced with questions, challenges, that our current leadership, on both sides of the aisle, is congenitally incapable of tackling. Will we succumb to our darker tendencies?
And look what I've got! I'm really impressed - that X-Wing is really next gen starfighter. I was afraid of that smooth redesign but gotta admitt - in hand it's way better than in promo pics.

This is also the first photo that I've uploaded to Flickr that I used a screen for the background.
I used Phoenix Custom Bricks' epic decals to make this figure. I think it turned out really cool!

An Anhinga has brought its catch to the water's edge in order not to lose it.
Usually, all one sees of this beautiful bird is its head and neck sticking up out of the water, since it is an underwater swimmer / fisherman.
They will swim considerable distances underwater, staying submerged for 2 to 3 minutes before sticking their heads above the surface for air.
Normally, they swallow their catch wherever they surface, but this one had speared this fish, and it took some maneuvering to get it off the tip of its upper bill and into the bird's mouth. It brought the fish ashore to lessen the likelihood of escape if dropped.

在主角理頭觀賞煙火是一次奇特的經驗，但也是很阿Q的想法(ㄚ，其實就是蠢啦~)，施放的時候，煙火根本就是照明彈，明亮的比熱戀的情侶還要閃亮(汗)，曝光這檔子事情就只能笑笑就過了~XD
再來每發煙火的後作威力也十足，感覺就像在砲管裡面看打仗一樣~地板窗戶都跟著震動了起來，所以防震這檔子事情也可以笑笑就過了~XD
但，從廣場迎面而來，齊聲一起迎接新一年度的震撼與悸動，看到那整條馬路上佈滿了手機搖動的光點，聽到隨著煙花的變化一陣又一陣的驚嘆，還是難以言喻的感動ㄚ~

This is my submission for CrAzYTueSday/ Theme is Books and Libraries. However there is a clause in the instruction that says journals and media are included. I have been collecting Vanity Fair magazines for several years, decades actually. My most precious ones I can’t find right now. I think I have them packed in a box. I just got confirmation that my husband did not throw them in the bin.

How often do we notice only surface beauty, failing to look for what lies beneath that surface?
I really wasn't underwater, here, but four stories up, and 25 feet back.
Some days, there are times when the water is not choppy and the light is at the perfect angle to see this clearly without even getting wet.
