An antique Maltese cross with the most unusual inscriptions started this piece. On the front is the legend "Virginia Carolina Fertilizers Chemical Co." The back is equally engaging with an admonishment to use the company's fertilizers to ensure good crops. This cross is from a watch fob, so I am thinking it dates from the early 20th C. Watching over the cross is a vampire bat stamping to which I have added a dark patina. Riveted to the bat is a vintage corner filigree. Fishing gear dangles finish it up and it all hangs from a 20" copper-tone chain with safety clasp.

A vampire bat drinking his breakfast. I'm still wondering where the zoo gets the food for these little critters.

Showing signs of having been danced many times and repaired many times as well. What a great impressive piece this is. It occupies a very special display area in our "den of iniquity" downstairs.
