I took this photo because I noticed how the shadows and the warm evening light were projecting onto the log. If I could change anything, I would changed the area of focus to be closer to the lens.

I've been struggling with the values in these 3 paintings for a while. If I can't resolve them soon I think it will mean abandon... which will be sad as I've become quite fond of my skeletons. The problem is that the skeletons are quite light in background. However I've tried to avoid darkening around them. If I had known that I needed to do that I probably would have cut them out and collaged rather than left them in one piece and need to paint around and in between their ribs.
The poor pennyfarthing is almost indistinguishable from the background colour in this black and white version and I think it needs far more pop. I've darkened around the had of the skeleton with the daschund and then spent ages using white to lighten the other two. I really don't know which way to go. I only know that they are unsuccessful as is.

Value(s) for Money? Philanthropy as a Catalyst for Social Change (March 6-9, 2014)
Increasing social and environmental challenges, writ globally, are raising the stakes for philanthropy to find "solutions". The deeply complex nature of these challenges, however, defies easy fixes and requires more sophisticated and diffuse systems level approaches. Is the philanthropic sector ready, or capable of meeting critical systemic challenges? Probably not, as seen through the lens of Michael Edwards in a recent think piece entitled 'Beauty and the Beast: Can Money Ever Foster Social Transformation?'.
Innovative funding mechanisms that support social change - like crowd-funding, social impact bonds, payments for eco-system services and prize-backed challenges - have diversified the funding landscape and brought in new resources. The system, however, is arguably out of balance with too much focus placed on revenue-generation, and directing financial resources, through the market. At the same time, less funding is available for the deeper, less tangible drivers of social change - change that is driven by the beneficiaries themselves and is inherently more democratic. Money, while a seemingly essential tool in change processes, can be a "curse", reinforcing or exacerbating the very circumstances and power imbalances at the heart of systemic social challenges.
The objective of this program, in partnership with Hivos, is to shape a new narrative on funding for deep social change that can influence current and future funding trends and global policies.

鹽水古名月津，以前為一繁榮的感口，是ㄧ個具有歷史歲月的城鎮，在台灣絕大多數沿海居民的民間信仰都為媽祖(林默娘)，而媽祖之所以可以成為沿海居民的信仰中心是因為民間傳說她會在海上替這些補魚的大眾指引方向，就如同燈塔的功能性，場勘過程中居民聊天，發現鹽水地區也有間歷史久遠的媽祖廟，故以此文化進行發想，希作品可以更親近於居民，也加深在地人對自我文化的重視與關懷。
Yanshuei, used to be called Yuejin, was a prosperous harbor, a town full of history. In Taiwan, Ma-Zu is the main religion for the most of people. It was because she was believed to guide the direction for fishermen, like a lighthouse. While exploring the location and talking with the folks, I found that Yan-Shui Ma-Zu Temple is the center of local religion. Therefore, I’m using this as my prime concept, hoping that the work could become more attached to people and intensify the value of their own culture.嘉義大學視覺藝術系
