This was a challenge to get the flash set up properly. I wanted enough diffuse light to not produce highlights on the pencil lead, but directional light from outside the frame to cast a shadow from the pencil. I ended up holding the mirror from this photo to bounce some of the flash's light .
Moebius (Jean Giraud) is a French cartoonist. He revolutionized comic art and pioneered surreal illustration in France. He remains my favorite illustrator due to his ability to create rich universes full of colour, detail and character. His endless portfolio of work pays tribute to his depth of imagination, a skill which I value highly. His work is overflowing with tiny details which add density and helps build environments. He spent a lot of time in Mexico as a kid which clearly inspires the desert-like worlds he creates.

While most Americans see themselves as middle class, the notion of the middle class both defines and is defined by America. The US was the first country where a large middle class emerged and truly enjoyed middle class lifestyles. In the US, being middle class does not just imply a particular financial state but a set of values, and even a way of life, that is assumed to be broadly shared, not only by members of the middle class, but by Americans in general. A strong work ethic, understanding the value of the dollar, striving for economic success and the promise for a better future for one’s children are the values which have made the huge American middle class possible. If the middle class in the US continues to whither away due to recession, constant unemployment, government policies that are not supportive of middle class Americans and that outsource jobs overseas, it will not just be formerly middle class Americans who will suffer, it will also be difficult for American society and democracy to hold together. A large and stable middle class has been central to America’s wealth and stability for decades; without this middle class the country’s future will be in great peril.

I could get used to this! Sat outside, glass of wine and a game of scrabble :)) I'm also beginning to forget how to cook, as meals have been salads and what I call grazing food, or simple tapas type things.

It challenges and inspires people to think about the role of ethical leadership in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities, staff and patients and how the NHS can increase the social value of its activities.
Welcoming representatives from health and social care, alongside more than 20 partners from the voluntary and community sector, this event (in Leeds, Yorkshire) was a template for future NHS Values Summits, which will be held twice a year in different locations across the country. Each event will explore a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights. The next gathering will take place in May 2013.

Save the Dream joined forces with Al Kass to host a special workshop.At the conclusion of the workshop, Massimiliano Montanari, Executive Director – Save the Dream, also announced that David Trezeguet has been appointed as a new ambassador for Save the Dream, which will see the Juventus legend promote the positive values of sport to young people at various Save the Dream workshops and activities around the world.

Grady Greats, a panel focusing on the enduring values and power of journalism, was held in New York City on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The discussion was moderated by Charlayne Hunter-Gault (ABJ ‘63) and included (from left) Deborah Roberts (ABJ ‘82), Deborah Norville (ABJ ‘79), Lisa Ryan Howard (ABJ ‘92) and Will Carr (ABJ ‘06). The event took place in the studios of “The View” and was coordinated by Robin Hommel (ABJ ‘96), senior broadcast producer of “The View.” Audience members included Grady journalism students from DiGamma Kappa, Grady College alumni and friends. A screening of the broadcast will take place on UGA’s campus in late February.

This Khalsa School has been contributing wonderfully in spreading environment values among their pupils and area. This year the school organised a variety of programmes to commemorate the Sikh Environment Day. The celebrations began with prayers followed by painting and rangoli decorations competition, a special clean-up drive by kids and staff and finally food was served to staff and students in pattals in a very environment friendly way, where no disposables were used.
