An early morning coil train blasts through Valleyview, Ohio at Harper Road. This is what I call my first cheat train. Finally after 1 year, I have my ATCS (Advanced Train Control System) Monitor program up and running. I now can see what's coming before it gets here without sitting and hoping one shows up! Yes, it's cheating! But don't fishermen use fish finders? I think the actual time spent getting it all put together was 3 days...not bad considering!
A crisp January evening at -23 C meant another rendezvous with the Full Moon rising over downtown Edmonton as seen from Valleyview Drive. I didn't realize just how similar this rise was to the December 7, 2014 moonrise until I finished the composite image. A near repeat! Whereas on Dec 7, the Moon was about 36 hours past full (97.5%), the Moon in this image, taken on January 4, 2015, was about 5 hours before full (99.7%). Different framing, different lighting and a slightly different position for the camera (I was at a different bench on Valleyview Drive) make for subtle and not-so-subtle differences in the final images.
An overview look at the Valleyview public housing development.

Used a graduated neutral density filter to better balance the exposure between the sky and the ground. Some additional dodging and burning was applied to control the exposure to more localized areas.

Captured this westbound Norfolk Southern at Valleyview, Ohio. Third engine is a lease...not a Conrail.
Three brand new SD70ACe's getting towed somewhere east. These three were assembled in Mexico.

This view looks east across the Merced River into Yosemite Valley. El Capitan dominates the left side, while Cathedral Rocks and Bridalveil Fall are on the right. Sentinel Rock is also visible on the right.
I've never really paid attention to spiders killing their prey until I noticed this battle on my back porch. The spider continuously stabbed the ladybug till it was immobilized. Interesting to say the least.
Captured this single engine waiting for the green light. CSX has all the tracks east of the diamonds at Scioto, (downtown) all screwed up so many trains have had to wait many hours to get clearance.
With gas hovering around $3.89 per gallon, I'll be sticking closer to home and grabbing more trains in my neighborhood. My recent trip to New England was over $500...ridiculous! Hopefully I'll get bunches while working...Lol!
