This my favorite spot in Yosemite. Prominent in the photograph are El Capitan, Cathedral Spires, Bridalveil Falls (with major water), and the Merced River. Looking down the valley just to the right of center the peak of Half Dome can be seen.
Cathedral Spires are 6644 feet tall and El Capitan is 7569 feet tall. There is so much water this year that there are even small "white caps" on the river.
Spring Colours - I would have liked to clean up the grasses more around the flowers, but need to learn that skill
The great thing about yosemite is no matter when you go there is always something special to photograph. The falls are dry at this time of year but the low water level is great for reflections :-)
Camp Chase uses about six miles of NS Dayton line track to get to Buckeye Yard. Here they are just about to get back onto their own track at Valleyview.

you know it is the famous Valley View at Yosemite :) this one taken about 5-6 days after the forest fire. You can still see a layer of smoke toward the back.

I made a series of shots as the golden glow of sunset light progressed up the geological rock features on the opposite side of the Merced River at Valley View. This is one from near the end of golden hour.
Initially I thought I will just spend a day at Yosemite. But I ended up spending almost three complete days. The Valley View was my location of choice for final day. I always wanted to come to this location during winter. But I guess this is like my home work for winter. Definitely sunset that evening was not as dramatic as previous days, but I liked this composition. Of course, there are limitless opportunities here.
I reached the spot well before Sunset and all I had to do is set the tripod and sit there. More than the photograph, I liked spending time there with nothing to worry about.
the Merced River in Yosemite, CA
The first time in Yosemite in 2012 I lost a circular polarizer here, I don't think I'll ever find it under all this wood.
This was in an old-school Motor Inn Located in Valleyview Alberta. That place certainly had character.
On the way back to our hotel I stopped at Valley View. I do it every time possible, maybe 20 times now. On this occasion I was headed down to the spot past about 20 other photographers. I slipped on some ice and landed on my back, on a rock! A few people around asked if I was ok, I acted cool and got up said "yes thank you" and dragged myself to this spot. My lens hood smashed and a kind lady gave me back a piece of it :). I took this shot (only one) and pulled myself back to the car with my tail between my legs. There I found I crushed my finger when I fell, it was in between the tripod legs which closed during the incident. This pic still isn't my vision for this place. I never seem to get the right conditions here.. I'll get you yet Valley View even if it takes me another 10 years.
P.S. I'm pretty much recovered
