The Mercat Colón (Spanish: Mercado Colón) is located very close to the Colón shopping street on a square in the middle of the inner-city residential neighbourhood "el Pla del Remei". I learnt that almost every neighbourhood in the city had its own market hall, so to say like supermarkets of former times. The Mercat Colón has now lost its former purpose. Instead, under the roof of the former market hall are now homed a number of trendy bars, lounges and restaurants in addition to a few flower stalls. The three-aisled Mercat Colón was designed by architect Francisco Mora Berenguer at the beginning of the 20th century, making it one of the most representative works of Valencian modernism (an expression of Art Nouveau).
