Valencia has some fantastic architecture and this building certainly had a great way of protecting it' residents from the hot summer sun.

A cheeky few days in the sunshine! I've been to Barcelona quite a few times - Valencia is quite different.
Die Stadt der Künste und Wissenschaften in València ist ein Anziehungspunkt für Massen von Menschen. Das das so sein wird wusste seinerzeit schon der valencianische Architekt Santiago Calatrava. Deswegen plante er eine große Parkgarage mit ein. Darüber hinaus plante er für das Flachdach der Parkgarage begehbare Attraktionen mit ein. So schuf er das hier gezeigte Umbracle (valencianisch für Sonnendach bzw. Schattenhaus). Mit seinen 320 Metern Länge und 60 Metern Breite beherbergt es einen von 99 Palmen und über 50 anderen heimischen Pflanzenarten gesäumten Freiluftgang, der von 55 fixierten und 54 schwebenden, weißen Bögen überdacht wird, die den Pflanzen offenbar genügend Schatten spenden. Kurios !
The City of Arts and Sciences in València is a centre of attraction for masses of people. The Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava already knew that this would be the case. That is why he planned a large car park. He also planned accessible attractions for the flat roof of the car park. This is how he created the Umbracle (Valencian for sun roof or shade house) shown here. At 320 metres long and 60 metres wide, it houses an open-air walkway lined with 99 palm trees and over 50 other native plant species, which is covered by 55 fixed and 54 floating white arches that apparently provide the plants with sufficient shade. Curious !
CALLE DE LA PAZ, 1868
En las intervenciones de reforma interior de la ciudad, la calle de la Paz ocupa un lugar relevante por sintetizar el espíritu del tránsito del s. XIX al XX y es sin duda el enclave urbano que mas admiración suscita por su singular calidad ambiental. Su primitiva concepción se produjo en 1868, aprovechando la oportunidad de los derribos de los conventos de San Cristóbal y Santa Tecla, para conectar de forma más adecuada el puente del Mar con el Mercado al aprobarse la propuesta de apertura de calle, bautizada entonces de la Revolución, de 14 m. de ancho y una longitud de 414 m. que debía de abrirse paso a través de la compleja trama de las callejuelas existentes. El proceso de apertura se desarrolló muy lentamente, con grandes dificultades y con la generalizada oposición de los vecinos. En el año 1883, con un completo expediente se aprobaba el Proyecto de regularización de la plaza de la Reyna (sic) y apertura de la calle de la Paz con la reforma de las vías relacionadas con ésta de los arquitectos Luis Ferreres y Joaquín Mª Arnau con el que se retomó la primitiva idea, consiguiéndose finalmente lograr la apertura completa de la calle en el año 1902. Importante vía de penetración al centro de la ciudad, su mayor esplendor corresponde a las primeras décadas del s. XX cuando se erige en el centro del lujo de la ciudad con modernas tiendas restaurantes y hoteles, y con importantes edificios residenciales.

This is the real thing in Valencia, Spain. El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe (the Museum of Sciences) was designed by Santiago Calatrava, that’s my man!!!
Just when we arrived at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias or City of Arts and Sciences and start taking picture, it started to rain and we were looking for place to hide and just following the people around which lead us into this underground tunnel like. The tunnel lead to the L’Hemisfèric — Imax Cinema, Planetarium and Laserium (also designed by Santiago Calatrava). Unfortunately we don’t have much time there so… no Imax. But on the way out… I saw this view and just WHAO!!! I don’t feel like I am on the planet Earth anymore. It was amazing feeling, amazing view, amazing weather, amazing architecture…
amazing… EVERYTHING!
Thanks to my passion, I get to post this picture today and reminded me of that AMAZING “EVERYTHING” experience! Let see where would my passion lead me to.
