Not long ago, at one of the Flickr groups concerned with film photography, I saw a photo by a chap who said he'd developed in Rodinal for one hour at 1:100 dilution, but pouring in a fresh solution at the halfway stage. I'm not sure what advantage was thereby supposedly gained, but I stored away the idea in the Bentos memory banks for future retrieval and use. When, today, I decided to give it a go, the film I had was a Kodak P3200 ...3,200ASA, that is. Rodinal is probably not the best stuff to use with this particular film, and it might not have been the ideal moment to get all experimental, but, well, in for a penny in for a pound.
The results were pretty grotty. Exposure was bound to be a bit hit-and-miss. I was using a Pentax ME Super, whose built-in meter only goes up to 1600ASA. I put it on that setting and shut down by one increment of shutter speed or aperture from the readings it gave. Many of the pics looked horribly dark ...yet others were, from an exposure point of view, perfectly OK. Why? How? Does the fault lie with exposure or development? Considering my dodgy processing skills the balance of probability is with the latter. Grainophobes are bound to have "issues" with this particular film and sometimes it's a bit much even for me. Here, in an end-of-film user-upper shot, we see our Electrolux Cyclone 1800 awaiting deployment during the one-hour developing time. I'd done upstairs the previous day, now it was time for the ground floor plus stairs. I don't mind the job half so much if the vacuum cleaner is assembled, plugged in and ready to go. It's getting the thing out and putting it together that I find such a deterrent. I'm the same with irons and ironing-boards.
I saw another photo taken by a chap who'd used a dilution of 1:200 and left his film developing in the fridge overnight.

A busy day, but not the usual rushing around from place to place - I didn't go out at all. Did cleaning, washing, ironing, CHEQS Magazine work, admin for Liz, booked: a BP check (a routine one I missed due to Covid); a dental appointment (we'll see if it actually happens!); a boiler service; and a flu jab (but am not entitled to a Covid booster yet due to be under 65). Oh, and also filled in a form for a refund on the waterproof camera case, which had a dent in the plastic, causing partially blurry photos! I was pretty tired this evening, so watched some pleasant TV programmes 😄.
