One of the sights of the A40 going in to London, thanks to Tesco for this masterpiece of St Deco extravagance. Built by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners (who else?!) in 1932, was used by the Hoover Company for manufacturing vacuum cleaners. The canteen on the side (left/west) was added in 1938, and further additions were during the years. Closed in the early 1980s, acquired by Tesco in 1989, Tesco worked with the Grade 2 listing to produce a working "museum" to 1930s architecture, and well they have done too. Two main building were demolished, and the car park is on their sites. The front offices are let by Parkinson Brown, and contain many treasures within the doors, again sympathetically restored and maintained. The building is floodlit in green until 10pm.

The Robo TAP is a smart evolution of the robotic vacuum cleaner used to target an exact area for cleaning. An IPS system aligned with a simple remote control attached to the shoe or slipper of the user, means automated cleaning can be over-ridden. Two taps on a dirty spot directs the Robo TAP to the precise area. Two more taps will cancel the order and three taps returns the vacuum cleaner to regular cleaning. It’s as fun as tap dancing, but much easier. You can now pretend to be Fred Astaire while effortlessly cleaning the house.

As it turned out, the vacuums were on the back side of the sign, but there were actual baby products on the other side. Which is disappointing, as for a minute there I had this idea that in Japanese homes, they put the infants to work cleaning up after themselves, which sounds absolutely wonderful to me.
We have a new devil in the house. Our faithful Rainbow vacuum cleaner that we have had since 1992 hasn't been working properly so we decided to get a new cleaner. We still may have the Rainbow serviced since it's a good machine but it would cost more to have it serviced than to buy a new machine. This one was $80 or so at the Wal-Mart. It made our carpet look much cleaner!

Mum was rather sleepy and slow this morning, so I did a bit of vacuum cleaning in between getting her breakfasted and washed and dressed. She had her soup earlier than usual, and while she had her post-prandial snooze, I had a bath and caught up with Downton Abbey on my iPad. I am enjoying wearing my onesie in bed now that it's got a bit colder - my airbed is on the floor next to the sliding door between the back room and the conservatory, and although there are thick curtains, I appreciate having a hood to put up at times in the night, and it's nice and warm when I need to get up with Mum in the 'wee' small hours!
HELLOO -OOOH! All this current talk of plastic pollution in our seas, and some perp has dumped this great lump of plastic down at Paddy's Hole!

A cleaning machine as old as me! My mother had a similar one. But get this: flickr's friendly robots think this is "footwear"!! Well, I suppose there IS some resemblance to the toe of a boot . . .
A primeira enceradeira da Walita com sistema que ativa o motor automaticamente ao abaixar a haste. Possuía corpo plástico do motor nas cores verde limão, laranja, amarelo alaranjado e vermelho, produzida entre 1974 e 1977.

"I love to clean floors so my favorite socks don’t get brown and dirty on the bottoms. My tidy tip is to keep a throw rug by the front door to wipe your feet on when you come in the house. My job is to shake the little rugs outside and then vacuum them!”
