My only kitchen scales are somewhat historic but they work so why replace them? Their weights are even more interesting.... it appears.

"Vessels of British origin intended for measuring or serving a given capacity (liquid or dry) will often bear verification marks of some kind. These marks served to confirm that the vessel met a given capacity standard. Some marks were applied by the makers – especially by pewterers - but the majority were applied by local weights and measures inspectors.

The marks may be applied in various ways, depending in part on the material from which the vessel is constructed. Pewter and brass vessels usually have the mark stamped into the metal. In many cases the marks incorporated the royal cypher.

The Uniform Verification Number was promulgated as a nationally recognised standard for metrological authorities, and from 1879 onwards authorities were issued with numbers".

The number 6 is the Birmingham mark and the 208 is the Coventry mark.

This car was featured in Eurotuner in October 2007. Owner Milos Cadikovski, of Toronto, has built an incredible machine. The 2.8L VR6 has been overbored and uses a stronger rod/piston set-up to handle the boost from the GT40R turbo. The power created by this set-up is in the 500HP range! (He has successfully put 484hp to the wheels!) The GTI runs an 11.02sec 1/4 mile and is capable of running well into the 10sec range; stomping the Corvette Z06 and the Lamborghini Murcielago.

The VR6 badge caught my eye here. Did we get a VR6 Caravellle in the UK? Perhaps a bit quicker than the diesels, but not as quick as the Golf / Corrado VR6!
