I've really grown to love this place and everything it has to offer. You could easily plan a 10 mile walk along the valley and up into the hills :)

Always worth stopping at the waterfall for a couple of photos. Quite busy on this occasion, a couple having a picnic and children slipping on the rocks!! Luckily we managed a few photos in between the crowds.

I've had a shot like this in the back of my mind pretty much every trip we've made to Florida. I've wanted a roseate spoonbill posing in a tree but the opportunity never seemed to arise. Until this past November. The spoonbills roosted in the afternoons over a stretch of water that would make a really nice image. Except the light was bad; there were branches in the way; the birds were too far away, etc, etc. After many attempts and much time waiting and waiting..... finally, one afternoon it all came together! Now next time..................

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

I've lived in Alaska for 23 years now and have only seen bison three times. The first two times the herd was on the Deltana River at least a half mile away. The third time, five bison came to within 25 yard of us. We were on our way to see family near Tok Alaska when we seen these bison walking in a clearing. Needless to say, we, my wife and I were really excited to see them. We only had a few minutes with them, they turned and went back into the woods, but wow, what an experience.

These bison are part of a herd that was introduced to Alaska back in 1928.

I've been practicing "stay-at-home" a lot lately but I finally got out to my favorite local park - the one with the "no fishing" because of an algae bloom. Well, rats, the sign was gone and there was a line of people (with fishing poles) to get in at opening. Rats, too, to my "quiet place". It is a big park, and there are wild areas, and this was my bonus for the morning - a Downy Woodpecker.

Feel free to check it large - lots of resolution, I grabbed that 61 mp thing accidently.

And as the years go by

Our friendship will never die

You're gonna see it's our destiny

You've got a friend in me

I’ve lost a bit of mojo getting out to the beach for photography these last couple of months. I’ve been giving too much priority to working out and partying. In my defence it was Christmas and New Year I guess. Time to change that! I think I’ve found my motivation in a 100X group on Flickr , where you commit to taking 100 photos of subject “X”. Not to be confused with 100 X-rated photos 😉 So I’ve committed to taking 100 new “Waterscapes” this coming year. I’ve been to all but a couple of the coast’s 49 beaches , but why not go back and enjoy them all over again . They are always fun to visit and there is always something new & different to see. And I haven’t paid anywhere near enough attention to our 4 large lakes and numerous rivers, creeks and bays. Besides, I don’t think I have enough seascapes in my gallery 😂

So this is waterscape photo 1 of 100 for 2025.

Hope everyone is having a great week! Thanks for all the kind comments , they are always greatly appreciated.

I've never noticed the single Christmas tree that has somehow survived here at Bedlinog. 66065 runs down the line with coal for Port Talbot as the mist and low cloud cling to the hillside. 6C83 11:30 Cwmbargoed Opencast Colliery to Margam. 1Z10 Cat 1

I've been trying to get out for a little fresh air before I start work everyday but with daylight starting so much closer to work time my chances to grab a shot are getting very limited, and I probably have to accept I will soon be doing just long exposure shots.

On my brief morning jaunt routine I noticed that a local wood had become swampy in the middle and I thought had aspects that looked a bit like a mangrove swamp. On a return visit I realised that I must have had my romantic glasses on and that "the swamp" had a more sinister feel about it.

So I was excited when this morning I woke and saw the local forecast showed "FOG". Well what a load of b@ll@cks that was. Not even a thin veil of the misty stuff.! But nonetheless self-discipline dictated I must head out for a short walk in the gloom. And stopped briefly to grab a few shots in the swampy bit in the semi-dark. But came away very unimpressed with my results. And now I'm not sure proper fog will make it any better

Dear friends, I've returned yesterday from another nice trip to France (Aquitaine). Trying to catch up as soon as possible....

At first I've spent a great time in the region between the lakes of Biscarosse (close to the Atlantic Ocean) and the Bassin d'Arcachon.

I wish you a wonderful autumn time and those friends in the Southern Hemisphere a lovely Spring :-)

I've only found a very few locations that I can get a nice shot of Mount Rainier. This shot was taken in Graham, just a couple miles from where we were living at the time. We've since moved, but I think this will always be an endearing shot of the mountain! Hope you enjoy!

I've probably gone too far in different directions when I can't think of a single group this is appropriate for.

I've been in the archives tidying up some images taken back in 2009 when we were fortunate enough to holiday in the UK. Back then I had a modest entry level DSLR and a single 18-250 lens. No RAW files, Lightroom or filters, tripods etc ....

It was this camera and trip that really spurred my photography interest on. I thought you may enjoy seeing some of my earlier work!

Been scared of the future, thinking about the past

While missing out on now

We've come so far, I guess I'm proud

And I ain't worried about the wrinkles around my smile

I've got some scars, I've been around

I've felt some pain, I've seen some things, but I'm here now

Those good old days

You don't know, what you've got

Till it goes, till it's gone

You don't know, what you've got

Till it goes, till it's gone

Good old days

Water Torture - not quite - simply, a slow dripping icicle hanging from an eavestrough - ah - spring,

I've started with rediscovering parts of my image collection with new editing software.

The image has been processed through Topaz Sharpen AI, Aurora HDR and Luminar AI.

I just love the the light through the ceiling.

I get poison ivy so bad I've been hospitalized so for the first 25 years of my life I didn't venture into the woods very often and I think that is the impetuous of my love affair with nature now during the second half of my life after moving to Washington from Missouri.

I enjoy little scenes like this immensely, indeed, this was early in the hike and still I stood here, smelled the chilled air, listened to the rush of water, the grinding of stones being carried downstream. I think if everyone took the time to do this the world would be a happier place. So open your window, turn on a tap and blow this up. You're welcome. :)

You've got to get yourself together

You've got stuck in a moment and you can't get out of it

Oh love look at you now

You've got yourself stuck in a moment

and you can't get out of it

I've posted photos of the oats harvest here in Howard County in the past couple weeks and here's the culmination of that process - threshing time. From right to left: a gasoline engine that turns a big belt that powers the threshing machine; the oats bundles being unloaded from a horse-drawn wagon that brought them in from the field where they'd been stored in the shocks; the big gray threshing machine that sorts the grain from the chaff; the oats is going into the wood wagon mostly hidden behind the threshing machine; the long gray tube carrying the chaff to a stationary baling machine that makes small square bales; the bales being loaded up on wagons and ready to be carried back to the barn. My Grandpa Reis threshed oats this same way only three miles away and I helped to throw bundles off the wagon and into the threshing machine just like you see here but a half-century ago so this was life as I knew it growing up. Grandpa farmed with tractors rather than horses starting in the 1940s though.

I've probably been saying this for 10 years on Flickr now. But i do enjoy a spending a bit of time before work in Eastham Woods. Especially around this time of year! Its good for the mind and a brisk walk before work is great for waking you up!

I really like this spot. Its on the edge of the woods which allows the light to penetrate the canopy and light up the Autumn leaves. It was a rather damp morning from the night before and the sun was hiding behind a few scattered clouds. A Polarising filter really helped to bring the colours out by reducing the reflection on the wet leaves.

This was taken more or less in the same place in 2019: flic.kr/p/2hDjGWr

I've been waiting ages to be able to use this title!

Local info: I couldn't drive up to the barn in my Ford Focus, I needed a Chelsea Tractor.

This is another shot for my Seven Sisters Set

I've stated this before, but I am always amazed that at a sunset beachgoers walk away as soon as the sun hits the horizon line. There is no guarantee, but the possibility is always there that you will be able to see some of the most incredibly amazing colors nature can produce if you just wait another 5 to 10 minutes. The sky can appear to be on fire. It will only last for a minute or so, but will be well worth your wait if you do.

Sorry I've not been posting much, I've just not had the time to get out with my camera. I did manage out at sunset last night and snapped this. I liked how everything appeared orange despite the fact that ot was bitterly cold.

I've heard blood curdling screams in the mists from high above me, and seen people emerge from between jagged slabs of slate in the depths of Australia as they do the Snakes and Ladders route through the quarry. I've even seen someone slacklining across the quarry early one morning when there was a cloud inversion below them. I've had my scrapes and scares, mainly tumbles, but I never lost my fascination or respect for the place, simply one of the best playgrounds in the country

Happy Christmas to all my Flickr friends and followers. Another year has gone by with some wonderful photographs by you all. Photographs to inspire, educate and admire! I enjoy Flickr so much for the supportive comments for each other. (I’ve never seen an unkind comment so unlike other social media sites) and there are no adverts!

Have a peaceful, restorative Christmas and stay happy and healthy!

If you've visited Amsterdam you must have seen the Magere Brug, the Skinny Bridge, which spans the Amstel River at Carré Theatre. No doubt during the day you've admired its strict, parallelled and even white forms.

But for the Amsterdam Light Festival 2020 and 2021 artist Krijn de Koning (1963-) decided to use LED lights to create a 'chaotic' night view. It breaks up the strict, mathematical lines of the day-view bridge. Fascinating, even in the light drizzle so from the Blauwbrug Sammy took a shot to share with you.

I've got a real thing for Pine Marten - there's something about them that has me hooked!

Since having some amazing encounters with them this summer, as hopefully these photos show, I'm looking forward to getting back up to Scotland over a couple of trips next year for more time with them.
