I've got that right, don't I?
A few have mentioned they never tire of fall foliage shots and I reckon we'll continue to test that theory for a while. The winds over the last few days have done their annual duty, yet the oaks endure as they tend to do, the last to give up the ghost...tho some only do so with the arrival of new buds in the spring, somehow hanging on throughout our trying winter.
Another very nice day for late October, so off we go to the canoe to enjoy a relatively rare windless day.
I've been sat here for quite some time
squarking sometimes . . that's my desire
who cares if I'm in a zoo cage or free . . .
matters not to many but it does to me
I'd love to be in the forests it's true
but I'm stuck in here as if with glue
oh to fly free to be a bird on the wing
and then perhaps . . once again I'd sing !

I've not been too good with ME and IBS for the last few weeks, in the main, so it was nice to get out on a sunny day and visit this little beauty that has been around for 10 days or so now, I think. An extraordinarily accommodating and lovely bird to see,
Also really good to see Norman Rice out and about, with Tracy.
Thank you for your faves and comments, much appreciated.
I've been a bit amiss with my posting and will try to catch up a bit (again) but staying rather busy this Fall and now with the leaves just about at peak color I thought it time to head out and enjoy the scenery. High Point State Park has always been a popular destination in New Jersey and I've been here many, many times but this year may very well be the first time the monument was actually open! I brought my camera and wasn't disappointed with the inner stairway and its 291 steps. I should have run back to the car and got my tripod but I didn't. Then again, if I got the perfect stairway shot that I had in mind I probably wouldn't have come up with this Fall slider of sorts. So it goes and I'm happy on this fine Sunday! Created for the Slider Sunday group - HSS!
I've been saving a few of the Fall flowers/weeds that grow in my front yard and these little blooms just seems to pop out from the rest. For this week's theme, "High Key" Macro Mondays group, the image measures app. 0.75 x 0.50 inches.

I've got the music, I've got the lights
You've got the figure full of delights
Let's get together, the two of us over a glass of champagne
I've seen that look in your eyes
It makes me go blind
Cut me deep, the secrets and lies
Storm in the quiet
We've all seen the 'Grebe Dance'
For all the world this looks like one of those., but on Steroids!
In actuality these two were about to have a proper 'set-too' and there was no quarter given on either side!
I've often shot the sunrise from this spot, but on this occasion, it was so brief, but perhaps the most special...

We have a very ill family member who is battling cancer. So, I’m listening to Joni Mitchell and thinking about my sister-in-law, Mary. This one's for her.
We've come here 3 mornings in a row this week, as Marnie (my lovely dog) hasn't been very well and we both need peace and quiet and open air - she knows her hill well. We met only a few people with their dogs, all very nice. This is the second one from my new phone (which I still don't understand - limited time to learn new technology), but I'll keep trying !

I've known for some time that the place around here to see acorn woodpeckers is Dawson Creek. But, after multiple trips there, I'd still not seen them. Finally, today,, I did my (internet) research to see _where_ at Dawson Creek that they'd been seen. I found a wetland somewhat matching the description, and immediately saw a Northern Flicker. But soon after, I saw a pair of acorn woodpeckers land on this tree. I now know where to look!!!
I've posted images of this wonderful place many times, but it seems to look different every time I go. This is Pitt Lake in Maple Ridge, another one of my favourite places to go and just take in the beauty of nature.
44:52 Giving Thanks
There is always so much to be thankful for, and I am thankful that I live in such a beautiful part of this world, and that in minutes I can be in the midst of nature.
Zoom in and take a look around if you like :)

I've always wanted to see flowing lava. And when the volcanic eruption started on March 19, 2021 on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland, it was clear that we would go to Iceland again this year (for the fourth time in 9 years). Unfortunately Iceland was not open for tourism so we had to wait and wait and wait. A few months later we could finally go. The Fagradalsfjall volcano was no longer as active as it was in March, but my long-held wish to see lava flowing someday came true. From the ground there was not much to see so we went with a helicopter. And just when I first saw the Northern Lights, I was once again moved by the splendor and power of nature. We could even hear the sound of the volcano in the helicopter and i didn't expect lava to flow so fast. It was so beautiful I almost forgot to take pictures.
Almost.

I've shot this bendy beech a few times now and each time it is the tree that keeps giving, especially with the curving track that sweeps around it. The mist just adds to the atmosphere as the soft light percolates through the canopy to highlight the path ahead. I'm sure it will feature many more times to come too! I've been up to this park a few times since we've been staying in Las Cruces, New Mexico but this shot was from our first visit, it was taken near sunset. There was plenty of drama in the sky and even rain trying hard to reach the ground.

I've been going over to Commonwealth Lake for the last few weeks, in anticipation of the arrival of the Osprey. I keep hearing about the Virginia Rail, and where to look for it, but hadn't been fortunate enough to see it - until Friday. Came out into plain sight - briefly - before darting back into the brush.
Today, I've got a floral tribute for You.
When I passed this bush in the summer (in fact I was just on my way back to the car) suddenly Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave started to sing inside of my head. They still do it, every time I am watching this photograph. This was the decisive factor for the titel and the main reason, why I finally stopped there.

I've been very happily involved with photographing and Flickr-blogging for the Enchantment: Lord of the Rings event this past February and seem to have found myself turning to all things elvish. I've always loved the elves of LOTR ~ they're so beautiful, mystical, noble, and so wonderfully TALL. My typist is not so wonderfully tall, however, so I guess that's *one* of the many reasons I'm drawn to them.
Pictured here are three of my bento heads. I've found, as with Strawberry, that I no longer to have a "go-to look" that I can say definitively is "ME" as with back in the old days, because I change how I look all the time, sometimes three or more times a day! I love finding just the right bento mesh head to go with whichever ensemble I'm photographing to showcase the outfit at its best. It's both challenging and fun - and so gratifying when I get it right.
In any case, some of my latest and favorite bento mesh heads from left to right: LeLutka Vera Bento Head, second, Catwa Blueberry Bento Head, and third, the GENUS Babyface Bento Head. These are by no means, ALL of my bento mesh heads, or all of my favorites...these are simply some that I particularly love to wear, but you'll notice on my Flickr page, I wear LOTS of different heads!

We've been to the tree several times
We've seen them their several times
But getting one to pose in the open for a shot is something of an endurance test
Anyway this one finally obliged in the fading light... but it wasn't for long!

We've rejoined the bike now and warmed up considerably from the chill at the summit of Mount Keen, which can be seen rising high in the distance. This is my view as I finish my sandwiches and get my breath back before the 6 mile downhill cycle back to the car.
Mount Keen is the most Easterly of all the Munros and although it is the closest to where I live, although I've climbed 10 others before climbing this, my 11th Munro. It stands at 939 Meters (3080 feet) and forms an almost perfect cone in its prominence. I made the ascent from Glen Tanar, cycling 6 miles in by bike (with an ascent of 210 meters / 689 feet), taking about 1.5 hours. This left me a final climb of just over 2 miles, with an ascent of 549 Meters (1801 feet), which I did surprisingly quickly (for me) at not much more than an hour. Including stops the whole trip was just over 4.5 hours, not bad for a 50 year old covering 16 miles of tough ground.
I‘ve repeatedly called myself "clumsy" and I know that a number of people can‘t quite imagine that I am, considering some of the more delicate macro-arrangements I experimented with… however if you ever get the chance to watch me folding laundry and particularly wrapping a gift, you would immediately know what I‘m talking about. 😅 What a mess!

I've got so many pictures of the forest that sometimes I don't even remember I have them. Not all of them are presentable, but I like to share those nice. I could fill my stream for quite some time with fancy trees, but they would get unrecognizable. I will have to break it with something else...
I've been waiting for your arrival in a convertible car for hours. And a sudden thunderstorm. I was at a loss. But you have finally arrived. Welcome back! My love. I was wrapped in happiness.
Rain, feel it on my finger tips
Hear it on my window pane
Your love's coming down like
Rain, wash away my sorrow
Take away my pain
Your love's coming down like rain
When your lips are burning mine
And you take the time to tell me how you feel
When you listen to my words
And I know you've heard, I know it's real
Rain is what this thunder brings
For the first time I can hear my heart sing
Call me a fool but I know I'm not
I'm gonna stand out here on the mountain top
Till I feel your

I've never before seen icicles in Soda Dam on the Jemez Creek -- what a treat!
The Soda Dam is made of travertine, calcium carbonate precipitated from groundwater. There are currently 15 springs and seeps in the Soda Dam area with a maximum temperature of 48 degrees C. The springs that precipitated the travertine discharge from a strand of the Jemez fault zone that runs through the area. The Jemez fault predates the formation of the Valles caldera.
The maximum age of the travertine deposits that make up the Soda Dam is 7000 years. Older deposits in the area have been dated at 480,000 to 1 million years old. This is about the same age as the Valles caldera.
About 35 years ago, the State Highway Department dynamited a hole in the dam in order to build the current road and the plumbing of the hot spring waters was disrupted. Because of the disruption, the Soda Dam is now slowly disintegrating.

I've photographed the waves going over the lighthouse here in Porthcawl before, using my old camera.. This is my first try of photographing a storm like this with my new 6D mk2. Processing is so much easier.. I don't know if it's the lens or the full frame sensor.
I've been wanting to shoot this place for awhile now. It's right down the street from me in
Burbank.. I just love the sign. "What's missing? U!"

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong
Tonight, I throw myself into
And out of the red
Out of her head, she sang
Come down and waste away with me
Down with me
Slow, how you wanted it to be
I'm over my head
Out of her head, she sang
And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever be this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
Breathe out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in
And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head
Out of my head, I sang
And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
I've been posting images of two great horned owlets lately. This image is of another recently fledged owlet on the west coast of Florida. One of the parents was sitting directly above the owlet (not pictured) and the other was in a nearby tree keeping a close eye on junior.

When you've once set foot on the other side
and you can still go back
your foot will never tread the same way again
and little by little you will learn to be on one side and then on the other
It is a learning that later does not want to resign
to that everything else learned, especially love,
learn to do the same.
The other side is the biggest contagion.
