I've got that right, don't I?

A few have mentioned they never tire of fall foliage shots and I reckon we'll continue to test that theory for a while. The winds over the last few days have done their annual duty, yet the oaks endure as they tend to do, the last to give up the ghost...tho some only do so with the arrival of new buds in the spring, somehow hanging on throughout our trying winter.

Another very nice day for late October, so off we go to the canoe to enjoy a relatively rare windless day.

I've been sat here for quite some time

squarking sometimes . . that's my desire

who cares if I'm in a zoo cage or free . . .

matters not to many but it does to me

I'd love to be in the forests it's true

but I'm stuck in here as if with glue

oh to fly free to be a bird on the wing

and then perhaps . . once again I'd sing !

I've been a bit amiss with my posting and will try to catch up a bit (again) but staying rather busy this Fall and now with the leaves just about at peak color I thought it time to head out and enjoy the scenery. High Point State Park has always been a popular destination in New Jersey and I've been here many, many times but this year may very well be the first time the monument was actually open! I brought my camera and wasn't disappointed with the inner stairway and its 291 steps. I should have run back to the car and got my tripod but I didn't. Then again, if I got the perfect stairway shot that I had in mind I probably wouldn't have come up with this Fall slider of sorts. So it goes and I'm happy on this fine Sunday! Created for the Slider Sunday group - HSS!

I've never managed to photograph a dragonfly here, or anywhere for that matter ! I have seen plenty but never managed it. This is a lake in Plantsbrook Local Nature Reserve, where the lilies grow and the herons concentrate and the gulls scream and then gather on a pontoon. Moorhens, coots, ducks, geese - no albatrosses unfortunately 😄. Such a blessing to live so close to this beautiful place. It can get very muddy, so it's usually devoid of people - ideal for wildlife. There are many areas of open water, wetland, woodland and meadow. Lots of dragonflies too, if you can catch them on camera !

Thanks for your kind comments my friends. Please, no multiple invites. Thanks.

I've always loved the pastel colour of this type of larkspur. The stems of the plant were about 5' tall and loaded with blooms.

Thank you for viewing this image and for leaving me a comment! Have a wonderful day!

I've taken many pictures of this homestead over the years because I find it very scenic. I was a little disappointed this year because there are very few wild flowers. Our rains didn't come early enough so the entire region here has very few wild flowers. I drove through the mountains to this location to check out wild flowers in particular and there just wasn't hardly any. Guess I will have go to Colorado soon to see if they have theirs. First picture with my new GPS attachment - I like it very much :) When you post your picture to Flickr, it automatically posts the exact location to their map whereas I used to have to do it manually :)

European Goldfinch m. [Carduelis carduelis] on a beech tree in my garden.

It was a cold and windy morning in the garden, but the snow was just melting as the sun came out. Lots and lots of wee birdies flitting around the trees and the feeders.

Lovely to sit in the sun, out of the biting north wind, watching the comings and goings of goldies, robins, chaffinches, dunnocks, blue-, great-, and coal-tits.

I've sat on this for awhile: it's not for the squeamish or rodent lovers. I took a poll though and couldn't find anyone who loves gophers. I didn't see the whole story, but evidently the heron nails the gopher and then takes it to water for the finish. Whether it's already dead by the time it gets the dunking I don't know. Actually this is the second time I've seen a Great Blue - probably this Great Blue - do this at this local haunt.

Over time, I've been building my castle of love

Just for two, though you never knew you were my reason

I've gone much too far for you now to say

That I've got to throw my castle away

Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect come true

Though you never knew it was of you I've been dreaming

The sandman has come from too far away

For you to say come back some other day

And though you don't believe that they do

They do come true

For did my dreams

Come true when I looked at you

And maybe too, if you would believe

You too might be

Overjoyed, over loved, over me

I've worked in a few kitchens in my lifetime. Or, should I say in another lifetime? To this day, I still get a kick out of poking my head into a restaurant kitchen, greeting the chefs and cooks, and snapping a photo or two as they work. I captured this image in the kitchen of the Copper Chimney in Mumbai, India. And, yes, the food was delicious and memorable! [Flickr Explore #81, August 3, 2021.]

I've never gotten this close to a Nuthatch. This guy was taking a break from the heat in the apple tree and didn't notice me standing beside him. I stood on my tip toes trying not to get that bottom branch in the photo. Then I guess I moved too much because he saw me and flew off. But at least I got a shot! LOL

Have a wonderful evening Flickr friends! Tina & the Puglets

I've been sorting through a lot of 'old' photos recently and have come across a few that I think are worth posting in and amongst more recent shots. Here's one of a Snowy Egret taken in Florida a few years ago.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

We have a very ill family member who is battling cancer. So, I’m listening to Joni Mitchell and thinking about my sister-in-law, Mary. This one's for her.

We've come here 3 mornings in a row this week, as Marnie (my lovely dog) hasn't been very well and we both need peace and quiet and open air - she knows her hill well. We met only a few people with their dogs, all very nice. This is the second one from my new phone (which I still don't understand - limited time to learn new technology), but I'll keep trying !

I've known for some time that the place around here to see acorn woodpeckers is Dawson Creek. But, after multiple trips there, I'd still not seen them. Finally, today,, I did my (internet) research to see _where_ at Dawson Creek that they'd been seen. I found a wetland somewhat matching the description, and immediately saw a Northern Flicker. But soon after, I saw a pair of acorn woodpeckers land on this tree. I now know where to look!!!

And if we've only got this life

In this adventure, oh, then I

Want to share it with you

With you

With you

Yeah I do

I've posted photos from the past two days tonight because a tornado tore out the power lines to Lake Meyer Park on Monday evening before I could get Monday's photos up on Flickr. This rose-breasted grosbeak likely feels lucky to be alive today!

I've posted images of this wonderful place many times, but it seems to look different every time I go. This is Pitt Lake in Maple Ridge, another one of my favourite places to go and just take in the beauty of nature.

44:52 Giving Thanks

There is always so much to be thankful for, and I am thankful that I live in such a beautiful part of this world, and that in minutes I can be in the midst of nature.

Zoom in and take a look around if you like :)

I've been obsessed with butterflies recently so haven't posted for a while. the good news is there are good numbers of High Brown Fritillaries, but worryingly there are hardly any Dark Greens. This was one from recent years, it's sad to see populations fall, but hopefully it's just all part of regular fluctuations. On many of the areas this year I've been seeing all High Browns.

So, I've been experimenting with some new heads this past week - some for better, some for worse, all of them still works in progress. Bear with me! 💕

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️❤️❤️

I've always wanted to see flowing lava. And when the volcanic eruption started on March 19, 2021 on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland, it was clear that we would go to Iceland again this year (for the fourth time in 9 years). Unfortunately Iceland was not open for tourism so we had to wait and wait and wait. A few months later we could finally go. The Fagradalsfjall volcano was no longer as active as it was in March, but my long-held wish to see lava flowing someday came true. From the ground there was not much to see so we went with a helicopter. And just when I first saw the Northern Lights, I was once again moved by the splendor and power of nature. We could even hear the sound of the volcano in the helicopter and i didn't expect lava to flow so fast. It was so beautiful I almost forgot to take pictures.

Almost.

We've had some great sunsets this week, this was yesterday just down the lane from me.

In case you ask, I'm sorry but I do not participate in commenting groups, but I'm always grateful for your visits and would like to thank you now for stopping by, and any comments you may leave. Much appreciated, John...

I've shot this bendy beech a few times now and each time it is the tree that keeps giving, especially with the curving track that sweeps around it. The mist just adds to the atmosphere as the soft light percolates through the canopy to highlight the path ahead. I'm sure it will feature many more times to come too! I've hired this delightful Cottage for my two lovely Maids, so they can have a wonderful peaceful weekend, the accommodation has three bedrooms all having en-suites, there is a private garden with a hot tub, well a bath ;-) big enough for them and there friends ;-) O I forgot to say Toby the gardener will also be joining them, have fun ;-)))

I've been going over to Commonwealth Lake for the last few weeks, in anticipation of the arrival of the Osprey. I keep hearing about the Virginia Rail, and where to look for it, but hadn't been fortunate enough to see it - until Friday. Came out into plain sight - briefly - before darting back into the brush.

I've been quite lucky to be given this head for a review. I absolutely and honestly love it! The bento sliders work smoothly and overall the HUDs [easy to use] offer a variety of features to customize your avatar. I truly suggest it and certainly will be one of my gos to! Bonus: You can use Catwa HDPRO Skins and NEW LOGO skins since they all share the same (SL) UV.

I've always been a fan of this EMD cab design. With Metra getting these F59s and WSOR recently acquiring mostly three-piece former UP SD60Ms, I'm going to be much busier in my backyard than normal.

Metra train 2135 storms west in the fading light just east of Ingleside with rebuilt F59s No. 97 and 99.

I've been looking though the many pictures on my phone.

As today is Mothers day, to all the Mothers in the world especially my own, thanks for all the love & support we give without question every day.

I picked this picture Kilkee as I have very found memories as this amazing place as a kid.

Above all be safe & enjoy the day.

Happy Mothers Day.

I’ve always been rather attracted to this Papermate propelling pencil because of its transparent barrel and the details of the spiral mechanism for extruding the graphite. Oh, and the colour… So I could hardly resist when the spiral topic came around again for Macro Mondays.

A bit of a rush job though - one take and then a patch-up in the processing. Had I had more time I think I would have used a tripod and focus stacking (or a different lens). Ah well…

This is vaguely what I intended, or at least an inch and half of it anyway. The full pencil is more interesting :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Macro Mondays :)

I‘ve repeatedly called myself "clumsy" and I know that a number of people can‘t quite imagine that I am, considering some of the more delicate macro-arrangements I experimented with… however if you ever get the chance to watch me folding laundry and particularly wrapping a gift, you would immediately know what I‘m talking about. 😅 What a mess!

“I know you’ve got the best intentions, just trying to find the right words to say. Promise I’ve already learned my lesson but right now, I wanna be not okay. I’m so tired, sitting here waiting. I’m so over all this bad luck, hearing one more “Keep your head up”. Is it ever gonna change? So let me just give up, let me just let go. If this isn’t good for me well, I don’t wanna know. Let me just stop trying, let me just stop fighting. I don’t want your good advice or reasons why I’m alright. Don’t look at me like that, just like you understand. Don’t try to pull me back because you don’t know what it’s like.”

I’ve just read a comment from a photographer who said it’s time to stop shooting in black and white. He claimed we don’t see the world in black and white and it was something only done in the past due to the limitations at the time and it’s time to move on. Here’s a number of reasons why I think it’s critical to shoot black and white from time to time, and how it can help nurture your photographic eye.

Ansel Adams, Cartier Bresson, David Bailey, Karsh, Sebastio Salgado, Albert Watson, Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, Irving Penn, Daidō Moriyama, Sally Mann, Avedon – the list of master photographers, alive or dead, who saw black and white not simply as a technical limitation but as a creative choice, could be an entire article in itself. But why did they choose it?

Here are some key reasons:

1. Color No Longer Distracts

2. You’ll See Light Differently

3. It Helps Emphasize Emotion

4. The Timeless / Classic Quality From Black And White

5. It Amplifies How You Use Negative Space

6. It Highlights Shape, Form and Pattern In The Image

7. To Highlight Beauty and Skin Tones

8. It Helps Focus On Composition

So What About Color?

The argument of not shooting black and white because it’s a thing of the past is a little odd to me, especially given that color photography is not necessarily a modern invention. Kodachrome for 35mm cameras has been around since the 1930s. The far more interesting (and possibly meaningful question) may be:“Why is black and white still so prevalent today, given we've been able to shoot color for so long?”.

I still shoot color and love playing with it, but I certainly enjoy the challenge and creative push from shooting in black and white.

I've been away for almost a month, and I'm still pretty busy at work, but I sure did miss you all!! I just had to post one, just to see if I remembered how :)

I hope you all have a great weekend, and I'll try to do a little catching up next week.
