On the path leading from the Glen Doll car park up to Bachnagairn. Looking around, large, black clouds close in around us and an inevitable soaking ensues.
Valley of Fire State Park is a public recreation and nature preservation area covering nearly 46,000 acres (19,000 ha) located 16 miles (26 km) south of Overton, Nevada. The state park derives its name from red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays.[5] It is Nevada's oldest state park, as commemorated with Nevada Historical Marker #150. It was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968.
Valley of Fire is located 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas.

View of the valley from the top of one of the highest hills in Overijssel, The Netherlands.
An hour after sunrise, the mist began to clear from the valley. Light fell across the landscape, revealing colours that were muted and soft. The old oak tree seemed content to offer its crown as a stage for the morning's first performance, a song by the smallest of birds.
The morning run of Amtrak's new Valley Flyer service departs Springfield en route to Greenfield, MA. The consist for these trains resembles the other Springfield Line shuttle trains, with a single P42, amfleet coach, and cab car.

This is another view of the fall color at the Merced River during my recent visit to Yosemite Valley. This end of the valley had the best changing leaves during my exploring. The water was deeper here than when I hiked to Mirror Lake and I was able to capture the reflections a lot better.
They've finally opened up Bridel Veil Falls near where this was taken, but I came on a weekend and there was no way I was getting a parking space. I'm curious to see what they did with the pathway up to the viewing area. Maybe next visit.
This is a view into the valley below Machu Picchu, Peru. To get to Machu Picchu, you have to get to Ollantaytambo usually by road. It's also on the Inca Trail which requires a four day hike from Cusco to MP. The modern town of Ollantaytambo is built on the foundations of the old Incan town and features a large important archeological site of its own. From there you take a train down the valley following the Urubamba River for about one and half hours to the modern town of Michu Picchu at the bottom of the valley. On the way the climate changes from arid to semitropical cloud forest. From there you take a bus for about 40 minutes which climbs an unpaved switchback road with hairpin turns up to the top of the mountain from the river at the bottom. It's a hair raising ride. The week before we were there a bus lost control and plunged from one level of the road to the level below; over 20 people suffered broken bones or worse. They space the visitors out so you have a reserved window of time so you have to arrive by that time or you don't get in. It was a full 12 hour day to get there and back. We got back to Ollantaytambo about 8:30pm.
An overview of Lehigh Valley’s Bethlehem Engine Terminal reveals a variety of power in various states of readiness. As an SW1 leaves the turntable and heads out to work, two RS-11’s are on one of the turntable tracks, and the cab of an RS-3 can be seen in the servicing area. Farther out on the servicing tracks, a set of C420’s is being reconfigured, while a Reading/B&O power set is on the ready track. This power came in on train NE-84, and will take NE-87 to Potomac Yard after it arrives in the Lehigh Valley.
Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire is located in the Mojave Desert approximately 58 miles Northeast of the Las Vegas Strip. Valley of Fire is the oldest Nevada State Park and was dedicated in 1935. Valley of Fire State Park covers an area of approximately 35,000 acres. Valley of Fire was named for the magnificent red sandstone formations that were formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of the dinosaurs more than 150 million years ago (Mesozoic Era). These brilliant sandstone formations can appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun’s rays. Other important rock formations include limestone, shale, and conglomerates.

This is the view from an exhausting daytrip up to the famous 'Ice Lake' near Braga. The mountains in the background are part of the annapurna range. Had a pretty bad headache from the heigth, but this photo was worth it.
Taken from the summit of Doan in the Mourne Mountains, this is the quaintly named Silent Valley Reservoir. I walked a circuit from there - see my previous two posts if you're interested! The low clouds were drifting around, making the place feel higher than it is.
I had my lunch where the chap is standing but he arrived with his family and I left them to it, finding another angle. Thankfully he stood admiring the view long enough for me to snap him to help the photo out.
