Valley of the Zêzere Glacier, 13km long, one of the largest in Europe, a wonderful gift of nature and, at the same time, an open lesson on the remains of the last ice age. Serra da Estrela, Portugal.

This is the classic view when driving around the valley. We checked this out about 8am and the light was very drab but on our way to Tenaya Lake after noon the light was much better. I'm off to the Eastern Sierra very early on Monday for a few days and hope to catch some fall color.
Another shot from our trip up High Cup Nick earlier this year. We had descended down into the Valley floor, rather than retrace our steps back to Dufton and we were rewarded with a fabulous golden late light show.
The moody sky and sunset light created a great sight, the only drawback was the much longer walk back to the car at Dufton. But it was well worth it.
Forecast was for bright spells and isolated heavy showers..........the weathermen weren't wrong!!

The River Ver in Hertfordshire is a chalk stream and has cut, modestly I should say, into the surrounding limestone - just enough to create a path through the Chiltern Hills, and enough for the Romans to build a road here connecting London with the North. The history of the village of Markyate is entirely shaped by this road (and its successors) and all the functions relating to the transport of goods and people. Some houses such as these ones in the foreground have crept up the flanks of the river ("Pickford Hill" in this case), but most stayed down in the valley ground. Up on the hills you would find farms and agriculture. It is also true that small industries have moved in - together with lots of interesting people who decided to leave the big city.

I have never been to this place before. Birches Valley Forest is near to where we live about 10 miles. Birches Valley Forest is amazing a beauty in the Autumn.
I would like to thanks all my friends in Flickr for your comments and supports. I am slowly picking up with enjoying your beautiful photos.

Valley of Fire State Park is a public recreation and nature preservation area covering nearly 46,000 acres (19,000 ha) located 16 miles (26 km) south of Overton, Nevada. The state park derives its name from red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays.[5] It is Nevada's oldest state park, as commemorated with Nevada Historical Marker #150. It was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968.
Valley of Fire is located 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas.

As the snow melted the winding river is still covered in ice. I am looking forward to the area, to coming alive. The animals returning, to graze in the fields below. Waiting for green to show.
