Autumnal landscape on a palette.

After sunrise. Driving around Monument Valley we found this sight at the back side. Beautiful and quite place.

Monument Valley "Ndzisgaii in Navajo", meaning valley of the rocks, is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona–Utah state line, near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.

Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Director John Ford used the location for a number of his best-known films and thus, in the words of critic Keith Phipps, "its five square miles have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West.

As I approached Monument Valley I was totally unprepared for the breathtaking scene before my eyes. I had to stop and attempt to capture it.

Walking on the Baader Höhenweg offers some nice views, like this one into the Gemsteltal, a side valley of the Austrian Kleinwalsertal.

The houses in the foreground belong to Mittelberg.

Beautiful alpine valley, little village wwith its beautiful alpine-style houses, nice holiday memory.

The second day of the shoot; the sun came out and suddenly there seemed to be a lot of green.

Today it was a case of early bird catches the good weather. This old bird was pleased to arrive 'home' just as the rain came even though I wore myself out with a walk which had several ups and downs in order to cross streams/rivers. The views were worth the pain (I think!) and barely saw a soul all morning since most people don't get going till later.

Valley of Fire State Park is the oldest state park in Nevada, USA and was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968. It covers an area of almost 42,000 acres (17,000 ha) and was dedicated in 1935. It derives its name from red sandstone formations, formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays.

Valley of Fire is located 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas, at an elevation between 2,000–2,600 feet (610–790 m). It abuts the Lake Mead National Recreation Area at the Virgin River confluence. It lies in a 4 by 6 mi (6.4 by 9.7 km) basin.

Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape. The rough floor and jagged walls of the park contain brilliant formations of eroded sandstone and sand dunes more than 150 million years old. Other important rock formations include limestones, shales, and conglomerates.

The park entry from Interstate 15 passes through the Moapa Indian Reservation. The park has a visitor center that should be visited by anyone planning any off-road activities.

The site is marked as Nevada Historical Marker #150.

Cleaning up my laptop I happened upon this from my archives that I had meant to post, but for whatever reason didn't. It was shot on Clingsman Dome in the Smokies.

I was still climbing to the "Rheinquelle", the source of the Rhine, but couldn't resist a stop to take this photo. You can see the track I was climbing, and the road zigzagging up to the Oberalppass in the background. to the right you see the Rhine Valley and the village of Tschamut.

I love to zoom in on a photo like this and discover isolated houses, tunnels and even the Glacier Express.

Yosemite National Valley Park is in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s famed for its giant, ancient sequoia trees, and for Tunnel View, the iconic vista of towering Bridalveil Fall and the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome. There is a Vista point that allows you to appreciate the whole valley. Stayed in this place over 2 hours waiting for sunset, other tourists came, took photos, and left… The light shifted and clouds changed so quickly that the view was always different.

Yosemite Valley is a glacial valley in Yosemite National Park in the western Sierra Nevada mountains of Central California. It covers an area of 3,081 km2, surrounded by high granite summits such as Half Dome and El Capitan, and densely forested with pines. The valley is drained by the Merced River, and a multitude of streams and waterfalls flow into it. It is famous for its landscapes and nature: impressive granite cliffs, waterfalls, rivers with clear water, groves of redwoods and rich biological diversity (almost 95 % of the park is considered a wildlife area). In 1984, the park received the status of "World Heritage" under the auspices of UNESCO.

After taking sunrise photo at Mono Lake, headed to Yosemite Valley. If driving along Highway 120, it would take a bit more than one hour from Lee Vining to Yosemite Valley, but Highway 120 was closed (opened on the end of May), had to detour along the mountain’s cliffs: Highway 395-108-120, it took more than 6 hours… Arrived in the afternoon, sunshine all day, questioned why 120 was still closed on that part. While when arriving to Yosemite Valley, attracted by the beautiful scenery, all of sudden, snowing with hails… Got into the car and wait for an hour, snow stopped. I could understand why 120 was closed, so dangerous driving along the cliffs in this snowing conditions. I heard some people missing while visiting Yosemite Valley.

Finally hitting the Tunnel View while driving along the Valley. There is a Vista point that allows you to appreciate the whole valley. Stayed in this place over 2 hours waiting for sunset, other tourists came, took photos, and left… so cold even with my Canada Goose Jacket on, had to get into the car to warm myself couple of times, left the tripod on the spot… Here was sunset with the crazy clouds covered whole Yosemite Valley! I took lots of photos in this place, only this one having crazy clouds among all these photos, I guess this shape of clouds lasted just few minutes.

Þingvellir National Park with Öxará river and Althing, the national parliament of Iceland. It's one of that famous places "must to visit" in Golden Circle, Iceland.

Þingvellir is a site of historical, cultural, and geological importance and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland. It lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The Althing, the national parliament of Iceland, was established at Þingvellir in 930, and held its sessions there until 1798. Þingvellir National Park was founded in 1930 and became a World Heritage Site in 2004.

The Valley of the Gods is similar in appearance to the much better known and more touristically developed Monument Valley and has comparable sandstone towers and sea stacks.

According to Navajo mythology, the rock formations are places of strength where ancestral spirits dwell, especially in the Valley of the Gods. The distinctive sandstone towers are petrified warriors of the tribe who can be invoked for personal protection. They represent bodyguards whose power and strength accompanies the young men on their way to war.
