My final entry to the Summer Joust, for the Category festival of colors. It is also an improved version of my entry for the third round of MELO. Here I depict the Valar Yavanna as she sings the tree of Valinor Laurelin into being.

"Upon the mound there came forth two slender shoots; and silence was over all the world in that hour, nor was there any other sound save the chanting of Yavanna. Under her song the saplings grew and became fair and tall, and came to flower; and thus there awoke in the world the Two Trees of Valinor. [One] bore leaves of a young green like the new-opened beech; their edges were of glittering gold. Flowers swung upon her branches in clusters of yellow flame, formed each to a glowing horn that spilled a golden rain upon the ground; and from the blossom of that tree there came forth warmth and a great light."

To God be all the Glory

This is my entry for RogueOlympics 2025 Round 1, with the topic "Dämmerung / Twilight". The RogueOlympics are a build contest by the RogueBricks Community, with each week featuring a new topic and a part limit of just 101 pieces (I used 99).

I built something that has been on my list for a long time (albeit originally at a bigger scale), a scene from the First Age of Tolkien lore as described most prominently in The Silmarillion. It shows the two trees of Valinor lighting the world with their silver and golden glow. But Melkor and Ungoliant are already approaching and will ultimately defile the trees forever, bringing nightfall over Valinor.

The original idea for this build was to light the trees with golden and silver LEDs. But while I managed to put an LED in each of the trees, they are hardly noticeable at all. So I tried to emphasize the lighting with my limited post-processing skills instead.

The one had leaves of dark green that beneath were as shining silver, and from each of his countless flowers a dew of silver light was ever falling, and the earth beneath was dappled with the shadow of his fluttering leaves. The other bore leaves of a young green like the new-opened beech; their edges were of glittering gold. Flowers swung upon her branches in clusters of yellow flame, formed each to a glowing horn that spilled a golden rain upon the ground; and from the blossom of that tree there came forth warmth and a great light.- J. Aloha kākou! Hello, all, and welcome again to The Wylde. We've come here to show some wonderfully beautiful trees from *Thus Magic* available at Fantasy Faire at their Faire store at Avalon. Now, obviously, no, Thus Magic isn't marketing these as Telperion and Laurelin, rather as Silver & Golden Trees of Myths and as Ancient Mythical Tree of Gold. But you'll forgive me for thinking instantly of the lost trees of fair Valinor.

I think that I could talk these up, but they're best served by the pictures. Or best by visiting them yourself -- you can see them at The Wylde. They make a fantastic centerpiece or accent piece to a build.

Let me say just a couple words about what I'm wearing. While the outfit is an older piece from Caverna Obscura and the wings were a treasure found from Aii & Ego a couple years ago, there's some jewelry here that is featured at the Faire that I want to highlight. The armlet, neckpiece, and tiara are from [Drunken Brokkr], and are not only beautiful but have some very nice texture huds that allow you substantial customisation options. I've already included the pieces in several outfits. Stop by the Drunken Brokkr Faire store in Samsara and look for the Thyria Tiara, Necklace, and Bracers. They're each sold separately, although there may be a pack with all included?

I hope you all feel welcome to stop by The Wylde and take a look at these beautiful trees. And while you're at it, visit The Nightgarden. Both are places to come and explore and enjoy. And if you're interested, I do contract out for sim landscaping along those lines. Send me a message if that interests you.

A hui hou kākou! I will see you around the Faire!

This year I only managed to build 4 entries. It started really promising and although I had a few rough ideas for more rounds, it seems like if I didn't have a very clear idea early on to get invested in, I couldn't bring myself to crank out a build over the weekend. However, it was still fun to follow all the other entries and the beauty of the often simple and small builds kind of made me regret not just coming up with something. This year yet again attracted a bunch of new participants, many of which really knocked it out of the park with their entries.

However, the builds I did manage to finish I'm quite satisfied with. I finally built the Valinor idea that I had originally wanted to do for Summer Joust and I'm really happy how it turned out under the part limitations. Also the UPS truck kind of came out of nowhere and I'm really surprised how much people like it.

Avar is a Tiefling who was on the "quest" with Camilla. I'm hoping I can write his personality as being funny and annoying. And his weapon of choice is throwing knifes. If I think of a back story for him I will put it on here...

Name pronunciation: Alvar, Al as in aloe vara v as in van ar as in are. Jevon, The J is a soft J I'm not sure what word to put... ev as in everlasting on as in on. Valinor, Va as in vacuum lin as in Linda nor is well nor. I hope this explains his name!

The Two Trees

by Theonering

In Valinor ere Sun or Moon

there shone a silver light:

a sprout was borne from pale green earth

that bore night’s silver bloom,

and bursting forth grew yet more bright;

the source of Valmar’s mirth.

In Valinor ere Dwarf or Ent

another tree was born,

and golden shone at once its light;

it spread a wholesome scent;

pale golden fruit did it adorn;

the mountains it ignite.

In Valinor ere Elf or Man

the Two Trees’ light was mixed,

and never was more beauty seen;

the Years of Trees began;

their light into the gods’ hearts fixed,

more lovely than foreseen.

In Valinor ere death or grief

the darkness came at last,

it cruelly slew the helpless Trees,

and drained them like a thief;

no longer was their clear light cast,

no longer did they ease.

In Valinor ere Sun or Moon

the tears flowed silver bright,

they washed a-clean the Trees forlorn:

enchanted was their bloom:

in Valinor in darkest night

the Sun and Moon were born.

An entry into the Forbidden Fortress category of the Collossal Castle Contest. A collab between John and I: John built the landscape, while I built the fortress. The build is based off of the story of Beren and Luthien from the Silmarillion. There's a full interior inside, and the drawbridge is functional.

Fun fact: this build used every single one of our trans green 1x1 plates and tiles for the swamp.

Luthien and Huan, the Hound of Valinar, rescue Beren from Sauron's fortress of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. Sauron takes the form of a werewolf to battle Huan.

"Therefore he (Sauron) took upon himself the form of a werewolf, and made himself the mightiest that had yet walked the world; and he came forth to win the passage of the bridge... But no wizardry nor spell, neither fang nor venom, nor devil's art nor beast-strength, could overthrow Huan of Valinor; and he took his foe by the throat and pinned him down" (Tolkien 175).

Built for MELO round 2, a 16*16 vignette. The prompt was to represent a given one of the free peoples of Middle Earth. I got Hobbits, and chose to depict Merry having Pippin and Sam over for a minor elevenses-meal.

It is suppose to take place after the scourging of the shire and Frodo’s departure to Valinor. Merry has just sooted his face when adding wood to the fire while Pippin is getting ready to dig in on the food. Sam is taking a step back from the two more energetic hobbits.

I don't think I'm going to explain the title for this picture, but I'm sure you can look it up if you're interested.

My second micro Lord of the Rings creation, after Edoras. Andrew JN suggested that I build Rivendell, and I was skeptical about being able to pull it off in micro-scale at first. The main build process took a little over 2 weeks, and then I needed to wait a bit longer for parts to arrive to finish the model. It was primarily based off of these two images:

picture 1, picture 2.

The model is view-able from all sides, and while one of my most complex micro creations, it was an extremely rewarding build.

Rivendell, also known as Imladris, was an Elven town and the house of Elrond located in Middle-earth. It is described as “The Last Homely House East of the Sea”, referencing towards Valinor, which is west of the Great Sea in Aman.

"Just beyond the edge of the known world is the land of Valinor..."

"At the main landing point on Beyond Valinor you will find teleport portals. These portals can lead your explorations to areas and locations....Experience teleporters are used. Thats a sim spanning system...."

The artic beauty of Svalbard at times reminds me of Valinor, the Undying Lands in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It's such a blissful feeling to stand on deck and be surrounded by this landscape. And then I go home, open the image and discover two "pixel bears." Surprise! They are on the fast ice in the middle of the image.

My entry for round 5 of the Middle Earth LEGO Olympics. My category was Valinor from The Silmarilion, and I chose to recreate the Kinslaying at Alqualondë. The build was loosely inspired by this image, particularly the landscaping. It took 7 days to complete, and weighs a whopping 26.2 pounds, making it my largest solo build to date! The build process proved to be very challenging at times, especially the water and mossy hillside. Initially I just was using trans clear 1x2 bricks for the water, but it was warping so much I had to add plates to connect it to the bottom layer of water, so that it would attach correctly.

Below is a summary of the Kinslaying at Alqualondë for those of you who are interested.

"The Kinslaying at Alqualondë was the first slaying of Elf by Elf, and was the act that banned the Ñoldor from returning to Aman, the lands of the West, for centuries. When Fëanor intended to leave Valinor, he needed ships to get to Middle-earth without great loss, but the Ñoldor possessed no ships, and Fëanor feared that any delay in their departure would cause the Ñoldor to reconsider. The Ñoldor, led by Fëanor and his sons, tried to persuade their friends, the Teleri of Alqualondë, to give him their ships. However, the Teleri would not help in any way against the will of the Valar, and in fact attempted to persuade their friends to reconsider and stay in Aman. Unwilling to take "no" for an answer, the Ñoldor started taking the ships and sailing them away. This angered the Teleri, and they threatened the Ñoldor with rocks and arrows, and they threw many of Fëanor's followers out of the ships and into the harbor. They also began to attempt to block the harbour; however, it is only slightly possible that the Teleri drew first blood. Then the Ñoldor drew swords, and the Teleri their bows, and there was a bitter fight that seemed evenly matched, if not even in favor of the Teleri, until the second Host of the Ñoldor, led by Fingon, arrived together with some of Fingolfin's people. Misunderstanding the situation, they assumed the Teleri had attacked the Ñoldor under orders of the Valar, and they joined the fight."

Thorondún, the sword of Glorfindel (also called 'Soronúme' in ancient Sindarin) means Eagle of the Western Sun. Glorfindel was a mighty Elf-Lord of Gondolin, who lived during the Elder Days of the First Age in Arda. He was the Chief of the House of the Golden Flower, and was also one of Turgon's most trusted captains and the fiercest of warriors.

Glorfindel’s power and strength in battle is shrouded in mystery. And even less is known about his mighty sword Thorondún, which he used to slay the Balrog during The Fall of Gondolin, in which he also was slain.

Whether the sword was forged in Valinor or in Middle Earth remains a mystery. But what is known is that it was buried with him by the great eagle Thorondor, who lifted him up from the abyss.

A fitting honor to him and his blade, since the sword was forged to represent the strength of the great Western Eagles.

On the blade is engraved the name of the sword in Tengwar writing, on the other side is the emblem of the House of the Golden Flower, both amidst engraved swirling ivy patterns.

On the grip and scabbard are carved similar motifs, as well as the phrase “the Awakened One”, which foreshadows Glorfindel’s conquering of death and inevitable return to Middle Earth in order to fight the shadow that rises in the east during the Third Age.

-

This was an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding sword for myself (David DelaGardelle) to forge to life for my friend and fellow artist; Justin Gerard.

Justin started an incredible series of Silmarillion inspired paintings, and his rendition of Glorfindel fighting the Balrog was one of the most striking.

This blade was crafted as a wedding-gift to him, from both myself and his good friend and and fellow-artist Cory Godbey.

It is the physical representation of years spent being inspired by his art, and the both of us equally drawing inspiration from the sanctified imagination of Professor J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings.

Special thanks to Maria B. for kindly translating the names into Elvish for me to engrave and carve onto the sword!

Vinyamar is the first home of turgon, who later would become the highking of the Noldor. Vinyamar has only been inhabited for 150 years because of the fear for Morgoth (the black enemy). following Ulmo Turgon brought his people to a place hidden to Morgoth. here urgon desided to build the equal of Terion, the great city of the Noldor in Valinor.

I have been wanting to build a series of Tolkien MOCs for a while now and this is the first one I have started. this is my idea of how Vinyamar should look (inspired by the Peter Jackson style). Vinyamar is a city in/on a mountain directly besides the great sea.
