Project : Levis community fit-guide and collection

on the bottom of the stand. of course what else would you be doing with your imac upside down, silly. this is the shit that gets apple into so many UX powerpoints. keep it up steve.

If you want to do something right, custom fab it!

I found a tiled vinyl flooring (recycled material) which can be disassembled easily (like a puzzle) and custom designed... with logos, designs, etc. I'm also fab'ing the healthstation out of hard plastic/acrylic (a company from NYC and Cali are putting quotes together around 1.5k per prototype). We can even get a bit fancy with acrylic colors, non-conventional bends, and honeycombing stress areas.

Ceiling height is a problem and we have no space behind the wall, so installing two or three projectors as an interactive cinematic display is tricky. That is TBD. As a fall-back, we're going with a 6' x 18' print.

This is getting fun.

What a joy to hear him speak so wonderfully, and especially to get to meet him. :)

Sketchnotes from Jeff Gothelf's keynote talk 'Better Product Definition' at UX Scotland, June 2013 in Edinburgh.

User Experience increasingly a continuum of integrated situations. The User has three main assets: Identity, Social Graphs and Content. Through the defined Sharing Settings, the User decides what to share and how to share it. This User Choices define User Experiences.

Thanks to anyone who contributed with suggestion to make version one better.

This is the second version of the "Portable User" visual.

Take note, Centro and all the other braindead British bus companies! (hover over the large version to see annotations)

For some reason, the Birmingham bus company seems completely incapable of providing almost any of this information, thus rendering the whole bus network bloody useless.

Another important part not shown here: a little display (and voice) on the bus that tells you the name of the stop before you reach it - which is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL otherwise how the hell are you supposed to know when to get off?! At least once you've sailed past your stop and landed up the other end of the city, you're unlikely to make the mistake of taking a bus ever again.

Nice optional extras include:

* a driver that speaks (at least) the native language of the country you're in, sells tickets and gives change. Really great ones even know where they're going and can answer questions like "Do you go to/near [well-known place]?"

* a unified flat-rate ticketing system across different modes of transport, with paper tickets for visitors and affordable season tickets for locals

If I thought there was any chance of it making a difference, I'd make a video comparing how a functional bus network (e.g. London) works and then comparing it with the completely idiocy of the Birmingham buses. Maybe I'll make it anyway, just to let off some steam.

I am pleased to announce that the book chapter that I co-authored with Dr. Mercedes Fisher, "Pedagogical Mashup: Gen Y, Social Media, and Digital Learning Styles," has officially been accepted for publication in the Handbook of Research on New Media Literacy at the K-12 Level: Issues and Challenges, to be published by IGI Global

later this year.

Dr. Fisher and I wish to thank the co-editor of the book, Professor Subramaniam at the National Institute of Education at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, for his hard work and direction during the writing and peer-review process.

In addition, we appreciate all the members of the peer-review committee for their feedback, suggestions and collaboration on this chapter. It's been a wonderful experience to work with members of the international education technology/media community.

We've saved the links for all the resources and references cited in the book chapter over on the social bookmarking tool delicious, which you can find here: del.icio.us/mashup.edu

For years, General Grover has worked alone to put humanity in its place—but now he’s seeking support from minions the world over at kittyattackblog.com — with hilarious results.

On his new site, this devious feline will blog about his exploits, illustrating battle plans and posting video footage of gut-splittingly funny kitty attacks. He’ll also seek suggestions from potential supporters of every species, and whenever possible, implement their ideas in future attacks. I’m excited because it’s all part of a social media experiment created by my interactive department and illustrated by yours truly. As Grover’s arch enemy, General Sully Bonesaparte will be making appearances from time to time to egg him on.

We don’t dare call it the next LOL cats (although we won’t be surprised if you do), but kittyattackblog.com is so funny, it just might make you pee your litter box! Visit kittyattackblog.com today and watch as General Grover’s revolution takes on a life of its own!

“iTunes: Country change” $AAPL #UX #FAIL #opinions

1. The updated iTunes is awesome. Spiffy and neat. SML Love. SML Thank You. Yes I own a lot of @Tiesto. Tiesto is my “work like a machine” biohacking music. The US Air Force uses Amphetamine for the same purpose, but Tiesto is both safer and cheaper (and legal in most countries).

2. Now that my iTunes Match subscription has ended, I can finally change country. SML Thank You. Updated my credit card information to Hong Kong, so all should be good, right?

3. Apparently not. I kept on getting error 5002. Googling the net it seems that credit card info is the issue. People suggest that removing CC and then only subscribing again should work. But not for me.

4. But I have identified the issue. Basically, the US address entries contain City and State information which Hong Kong address does not. But since I used to live in New York, those fields are active, thus obviously my bank does not authorize an address in Brooklyn but there is no way for me to remove those entries in my address fields [2]

SML2AAPL: please fix! SML Thank You in advance.

This is a possible scenario for the evolution of portable social graphs.

On-line (User) Experience is like air. This visual focuses on how the user extends his / her on-line assets to experiences. The user's assets are: identity, connections and data (uploaded or observed in user's behavior).

The assets are management through settings (Sharing Management) and allow to integrate with on-line experiences.

If your customers are saying things like “I like this product because it’s easy to use,” you know that you are providing them with a great user experience.

Last year, I asked a question on Quora asking why Apple ($AAPL) does not violate antitrust laws to default Safari as its browser on iOS devices while Microsoft ($MSFT) was fined billions for defaulting Internet Explorer in Windows. An anonymous user reasoned that Apple’s practice cannot be considered as monopolistic because it does not hold the majority share of the market [1].

A couple of days ago, Bloomberg reported that Apple has—for the first time—taken over Samsung to become the top mobile-phone maker in the U.S. [2]

Does this mean that it is finally possible to pressure Apple to give users the option to customize which browser is used by default on iOS? That would be very welcome, as Google ($GOOG) Chrome on iOS in my opinion gives a far better user experience than Safari, and frankly it is wasting a lot of time for me to be copying URLs from Safari just so that I can paste into Google Chrome.

1. Bloomberg: 2013-02-01: Apple Overtakes Samsung With 34% of U.S. Mobile Market: www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-02-01/apple-overtakes-samsung...

Apple Inc. (AAPL) passed Samsung (005930) Electronics Co. to become the top mobile-phone maker in the U.S. for the first time, scoring a victory in the companies’ battle for global dominance of the mobile-device market.

The U.S. market is a stronghold for Apple as it faces intensifying competition from Samsung and other smartphone makers using Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android operating system. Samsung, which also makes cheaper handsets with less sophisticated functions, is the global leader in mobile phones with more than 100 million units sold last quarter.
