During the weeks of the HWT Experiment, forecasters assess a new tool using rapidly-updating high-resolution gridded Probabilistic Hazard Information (PHI) as the basis for next-generation severe weather warnings. This experiment is part of a broad effort to revitalize the NWS watch/warning paradigm known as Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats (FACETs). The major emphasis of the HWT PHI experiment is on initial testing of concepts related to human-computer interaction while generating short-fused high-impact Probabilistic Hazard Information for severe weather. The long-term goal of this effort is to move the refined concepts and methodologies that result from this experiment into Hazard Services, the next generation warning tool for the NWS, for further testing and evaluation in the HWT prior to operational deployment. This experiment will run concurrently with the “HS-PHI with End Users” experiment.

Around fifteen people from our Lego User Group (including myself) collaborated to put on a display of Lego trains at Adelaide Model Railway Exhibition 2017, winning the most popular layout award.
So, as a Nikon dSLR user who recently switched to Canon, I wanted to talk about my observations about the differences between the two a bit. (I used to own the D80, and now have have the bottom-of-the-line XTi Rebel, so keep that in mind, as this may not apply to all models. But I suspect it mostly does.)
Nikon gets props for "convenience" features that make it easy to quickly get shots that are unlikely to be technically flawed: auto ISO, auto contrast, decent auto WB, etc. Canon forces you to think about this shit and make choices. And it GIVES you choices: the color saturation control, for example, is insane. On Nikon you can go from Kodak NC to Kodak VC; on the Canon you can crank the shit to 11 (and no, when the camera's doing it it's not the same thing as boosting saturation in photoshop).
But the canon's real secret weapon is the contrast setting. On Nikon you leave contrast set to 'auto' and never give it a second thought (digital capture being as sensitive as it is, you'd be silly to try to out-smart the camera in that regard); but on Canon you need to make a choice, and it's unlikely you'll be choosing on a shot-to-shot basis. Personally, I've become addicted to the weird look of the low-contrast setting. It fucks with the colors in this really interesting, hyper-real sort of way that's difficult to describe, but it certainly can be magical in some situations (and if not, a simple "auto-color" in PS or "I'm feeling lucky" in Picasa will restore a more conventional look).
My current conclusion is that if you want to re-create reality (or if you're new to photography) your obvious choice is Nikon (Susan just got a D40, and she's thrilled with it). If you want to play around with the way things look, and you have lots of time to experiment with the photo-capture process to get to what you like, Canon gives you more options and sort of forces you to explore them.

In a world of make believe
You can change all that you see
But in the world of reality
You've taught me all that I need
Time like a river flows
Twisting and turning all the way
Life is an endless road
You've been with me day by day
The only way I can thank you
Is to be the best that I can be
If we hold on together
Just you and me
A mother's love is forever
A mother's love is for free
It doesn't matter if you're good or bad
She's there for whatever you need
In the world of fantasy
Hold on to your dreams
Open up your heart and see
All the love you need is me
Time like a river flows
Twisting and turning all the way
Life is an endless road
You've been with me day by day
You are you and I am me
You've made me all that I am
Heart to heart and hand to hand
Always there to understand
A mother's love is forever
A mother's love is for free
It doesn't matter if you're good or bad
She's there for whatever you need
Doesn't matter if you're good or bad
There's nothing like a mother's love
A Mother's Love
