The Tuwaiq Escarpment forms a system of extensive canyons which cuts through the sandstone of Central Arabia. It starts from Buraydah in the north and extends around 1,000 km close to the northwestern edge of 'Rub Al Khali' (The Empty Quarter), south of As Sulayyil.

Wooden specialty planes in decent shape are not very common in my part of the world. Most of the ones I find are worn out or just poorly made with twisted bodies and partially damaged. So I am very pleased when I find one in good shape. This one is user made and unmarked, but it is a nice example of good craftsmanship. The plane is made of beautiful beech with brass plates in the fence and both cutters are made cut off parts of a larger plane iron. The original wedge has been lost during the years so I will have to make a new one.
