A very useful groundcover perennial, often grown in dry, sunny areas with poor soil. Plants form a low, fast-spreading mat of silvery-grey leaves, studded with tiny white star flowers in late spring and early summer. An indestructible choice for difficult sites, but be sure to plant this where its spreading habit will not become a problem. Beautiful spilling over rock walls or on steep sunny slopes, used as a lawn substitute. Also grows well in tubs or mixed containers. Easily divided in spring or fall. Plants should be clipped hard or mowed (to 2 inches) after blooming to maintain a tidy habit.
At the PhotoPills Camp I've had the opportunity to see a presentation by Eric Paré and Kim Henry on their light-painting work.
Later in the day (night...) I've seen it for real. And photographed it!
Although I had high expectations, I must say that reality surpassed them by far!
It was a wonderful night that will be kept in my memory (and photos!). Many thanks to Eric and Kim!

0h i need to sleep
Or just to dream...
even...if,,,, Unplugged
======================
The darkest days have spread like a feeding feast as a "Rape"
The world surely uncertain
"That even the most Brilliant diamonds...
.... cannot save you "
Lockdowns
As this mystery ...marks its graves
..yet groundless.."they lay"
Confusion
overwhelming
some have fits
some are tempers
but for sure....
all,.
know...
death has stuck
--------------------------
The hope

Well...
then enters '
Of times before
To walk or run
without the fear of....
'The outside'
yes'
Just to breathe.
but.....
Conversations with neighbors...are far to hear
Is this the new 'world?'
Will our spirit overcome all ?
for those who mourn the dead ..
..i do cry thousands of tears
"This Terror"
This...
Darkest days
Yet
my mind
thinks
dark thoughts
as...
"Is this political rather than biological.
" ?????

To my momma: I am sorry for your loss
To my Anna : I am sorry for your pain
To the world: I am sorry for my own fear.
To my Friends: Is the time now

This is the canal which links the Cagliari salt evaporation ponds (now dismissed) with the harbour. The salt collected in the ponds was loaded into barges and then a tug carried the train of barges to the harbour where the salt was unloaded to be shipped.
In ancient times the barges were pulled by horses.

Get well soon, Hans, we are looking forward to when you will be back as group admin and also with new photo contributions to the MM group :)
Something I've always wanted to photograph with the extension tubes in order to get really close, but never got it quite right. Well, it's still far from perfect, but at least I managed to get a fairly sharp image of these tiny honeycomb cubes (size of each cube: 2x2 mm / 0,07x0,07 inches) this time. They are inside of a small orange spoke (or rear) reflector, a scratched, battered thing that must have fallen off a bicycle. I picked it up in the street one day, because I thought it might be useful for Macro Mondays one day. I've already used this once before for a theme, the "Lit by Candlelight" theme from December 2017 (you can find the photo in the third comment, I was too slow ;) ). And since Hans is Dutch, and the Netherlands are a bycicle country, I thought the reflector might be an appropriate subject for the Oranje / Orange theme :)
I've used both extension tubes (which gave me 26 mm on top of the 60 mm from my macro lens), the Raynox DCR-250 close-up lens and a +4 close-up filter. The result reminds me of an optical illusion, because I can see both the cubes and the honeycombs, but not at the same time. I hope it's not too confusing to look at. I had to do some extensive dust and "scratch bokeh" removal (some of the many scratches on the plastic surface appeared as bokeh spots, but not nice ones, when I focused on the inside of the reflector) with the healing brush to make it pleasant to look at, and only when I applied a slightly matte look in Analog Efex it looked right to me.
I have a very busy day today, so I hope I can catch up with you tonight. HMM, Everyone, stay safe!

The American crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) is a large passerine bird species of the family Corvidae. It is a common bird found throughout much of North America. American crows are the New World counterpart to the carrion crow and the hooded crow.
Although the American crow and the hooded crow are very similar in size, structure and behavior, their calls and visual appearance are different. The American crow, nevertheless, occupies the same ecological niche that the hooded crow and carrion crow do in Eurasia.
From beak to tail, an American crow measures 40–50 cm (16–20 in), almost half of which is tail. Mass varies from about 300 to 600 g (11 to 21 oz). Males tend to be larger than females. The most usual call is CaaW!-CaaW!-CaaW!. Plumage is all black, with iridescent feathers. It looks much like other all-black corvids. They are very intelligent, and adaptable to human environments.
American crows are common, widespread, and susceptible to the West Nile virus, making them useful as a bioindicator to track the virus's spread. Direct transmission of the virus from crows to humans is impossible. They are considered an agricultural pest, and are subject to hunting and management.

Useful plant or weed? It depends, it is used for aromatic oil but in some areas it can be quite invasive. Nobody planted it in our garden, it has just grown by itself, it seems quite attractive to bees.
The theme for MM is hand tool. My tiny scissors are just right for daisy cutting!
Thanks for views, favs and comments, much appreciated 👍💕
I brought a peacock feather home from a visit to our local zoo because Cleo likes feathers and I hoped that it would be useful for her daily exercise. It's already good news that she doesn't just turn around and leave when I try to play with her with the feather although she makes sure that she doesn't have to move much more than her paw. We have a long way to go ....
To do the useful thing, to say the courageous thing, to contemplate the beautiful thing: that is enough for one man's life.

Lately I found my mind wandering as we wind ourselves into the new year of 2023. I decided to do a more thoughtful pose to work with some PS tools I've neglected for far too long to get the hang of them. Maybe, hah. Working in extreme closeup made me appreciate the work put into the eyebrows and eyes by Landgraff (his Unholy eyes are really cool), the brows alone are nicely detailed down to the tiniest hair and added scar. I'm wearing Cubic Cherry's spectacles to add to the haughty look.

After the discussion in the group Saturday Self-Challenge I decided to photograph mine for the theme Old but still useful.
It's so old that all the paint has come off the handle. I must have bought this some time in the second half of the 1960s.

I made this shot here last year in Summer when I was reaching this wonderful peak of a mountain at an altitude of more than 3’000 meters. And more or less 15 minutes away from the peak I made a break to make this shot here. Well … not the best light … in fact it was a mix of soft and hard light and a challenge to get something useful with the cam but it’s always something special when you get at such locations. And even more the weather conditions changed to something not so comfortable as you can see on the image! In fact when I was seeing the summit it just began to rain … you can see some of the first water drops on the rocks on the right part of the image. But it was really amazing to be there and to feel the cold and fresh air despite it was Summer. For the sense of scale … the first rock on the left side was bigger than me he he he and I had to climb a bit to get at the more comfortable hiking part on my way up. I’m still wondering and impressed about how my dog „Giorgio“ (a collie) always could find his way to follow me he he he :-) I hope you like it.
Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated.

Taken at the Great Central Railway in Loughborough, found this old, though still useful shed - I liked the way the light fell on the doors.
For 120 pictures in 2020 #113 "Useful", this is a set of 4 mini-whisks I use mainly for beating scrambled eggs (I am the only one in the house who eats them, so only two at a time). But they are also great for mixing in any small bowl or container.
Spider was not big at all, but think it looks it in this photo.
Purple card was placed behind it to create a back drop.
Here is a similar one using Black card.

An useful way of up cycling an old tyre!
Spotted in the woods on my walk last week, this home made swing was designed and made by two 11 year old girls. And no, I didn't take up their offer of trying it out!
At first glance maybe an unusual spider? lol! This is a "bear claw," one of two that I use to retrieve a large, stuffed turkey from the oven twice a year. Yes, Thanksgiving and Christmas. ( I think it would make a great weapon, too if I encountered a burglar in my home)! Super sharp! Happy Crazy Tuesday everyone!
Victoria and Albert Museum: Exhibitions
It is very useful being a member of the Museum. I get to see most of the exhibitions and talks free. Of course, I have to pay a membership fee but when I think of the positives, it is worthwhile. Monday 12th August I took my daughter to two exhibitions on fashion. The first being Mary Quant and the second, Christian Dior. Wasn’t quite sure if I would like them but I did and we had a great day out. They were both brilliant exhibitions. Fortunately we saw other exhibits too, all good.

Useful versus beautiful. A recurring debate in contemporary architecture, where these concepts often seem mutually exclusive. Yet for centuries, functional buildings did not shy away from beauty — especially during the classical period. Istanbul’s Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) is a perfect example. Built in 532 AD by order of Emperor Justinian I, it was designed to store drinking water brought from the Valens Aqueduct and other sources, with a capacity of up to 80,000 m³. From the outside, nothing hints at its presence. But upon descending, we are met with a surprising scene: a forest of 336 marble columns holding up a brick vault. The play of lights, the reflections in the water, the shadows... everything contributes to a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Part of its beauty lies in its imperfection: many columns were repurposed from ancient temples, and their diverse capitals give the space a unique, human character. In the golden gloom of the image, the columns seem to repeat endlessly, mirrored on the still water. The visitor —small, almost invisible— wanders among shadows and light, as if walking through a timeless underground city.

Polygonum amplexicaule, Red Bistort, - of which I've posted several photos these last few days - drew me once again, and this is what Olymp recorded.
Wasps are out foraging for nectar on Red Bistort, one of few flowers still braving Autumn Chills; in fact, if it's a bright enough day they'll forage still at 2 or 3 degrees C. They desperately need that sweetness for sustenance; their nests are empty of transformed larvae which exuded sugars for their parents. So here they are in the Red Oudoors fending for themselves. They now don't need those formidable mandibles (see inset lower left) so useful for cutting up insects for their larvae; it's their proboscis that draws up Flower's nectar with the help of capillary action.
Red Bistort has already been pollinated mostly by other insects - Bees and Hoverflies and such. You can see the resulting side-effect of their work, those chestnut-brown seeds in the left top inset.
And Lo and Behold! Olymp also caught himself a Grove Snail. 'Look Master!' he cried, 'I won't eat it but you can show it to your friends!' So here you are, Oh! Flickerites.
The Tawny Telephore (Rhagonycha fulva) loves pollen. But that's not all. It also appreciates aphids, caterpillars and other pest larvae. Its own larvae are even more useful in the vegetable garden. Carnivorous, they stay in the soil and feed on small slugs.
